A Utah woman is going viral after sharing the disturbing story of how she says she escaped a polygamous cult that allegedly wanted her to marry her own cousin. And honestly, the details sound less like real life and more like something straight out of a dark psychological drama series.
Amanda Rae, who now openly discusses surviving what she calls “The Order” cult on social media, has gained massive attention online after revealing the environment she says she was raised in inside the group based near Salt Lake City, Utah. The organization, also known as the Latter Day Church of Christ or the Davis County Cooperative Society, has long been controversial, but Amanda’s firsthand account has people online absolutely stunned.
According to Amanda, she grew up surrounded by extreme polygamy, complicated family ties, and strict control. She explained that her father had three wives and that one of those wives was actually his own half-sister, who was also Amanda’s aunt.
Utah Woman Shares Disturbing Family Story
Amanda also revealed she has more than 30 siblings, describing a family structure that many viewers found deeply unsettling. But the moment she realized she had to leave came when, according to her, the group allegedly began pressuring her into marrying a cousin.
“They were trying to make me marry my cousin,” Amanda explained in the viral clip. And the details only became more alarming from there. “His mom and dad were half-siblings, so he only had one grandpa,” she added.
That statement alone sent shockwaves through TikTok, where the video exploded to more than a million views as viewers tried processing the situation she described. The Utah woman says she ultimately escaped in 2013 when she was just 17 years old. But leaving, according to her, wasn’t simple or safe.
She explained that she and some friends had created a risky plan involving photographs they allegedly intended to use as leverage against the group. According to Amanda, they wanted to document children supposedly working at the cult’s bank while also trying to recover money they believed was being controlled through accounts tied to the organization.
Reactions Were Swift
But she says things spiraled quickly. Amanda admitted she wasn’t discreet while taking the photos, and shortly afterward, she claims the leader’s brother confronted her violently. According to her account, the man allegedly grabbed her phone and physically forced her out of the building.
In a follow-up video, Amanda said she was left bleeding from the neck during the altercation. She said she called 911, and by coincidence, a police officer happened to already be nearby. She claims the officer photographed the injuries and visible handprints on her neck before attempting to confront the man she accused of attacking her.
“Nothing shocks me anymore,” one person commented online. “I’m going to need a diagram,” said another. “Someone should make a movie about this,” a third person declared. “WTH is happening in Utah?” a fourth comment read.
The Utah story has exploded online not only because of the shocking family dynamics she described, but because viewers remain fascinated by stories involving isolated religious groups, escape narratives, and survivors rebuilding their lives after leaving controlling environments.
