Miley Cyrus Struggles Following Dolly Parton’s Tennessee Death: ‘Going To Hurt For A Very Long Time’

Miley Cyrus is just one of many celebrities, fans, friends, and family members mourning the death of music icon Dolly Parton. The beloved singer died in Tennessee on August 25 at the age of 80, per The Associated Press. For fans, the loss is huge. However, for Miley, it’s said to be completely life-altering.

Sources tell Rob Shuter’s Naughty or Nice that Miley Cyrus is completely devastated by the loss of her Godmother, Dolly Parton. The two were extremely close, often performing together. Dolly has been part of Miley’s world her entire life, and losing her is reportedly taking a toll on the former Hannah Montana star.

“Miley is in a very dark place right now,” an insider dished. “She knew this day would eventually come, but nothing could have prepared her for actually losing Dolly. She is absolutely heartbroken.”

“This isn’t Miley losing another music legend,” the source continued. “This is Miley losing someone who helped raise her, guided her career, and loved her unconditionally. This one is going to hurt for a very long time.”

Following Parton’s death, Cyrus took to her Instagram account to share a tribute to her Godmother. However, it seemed that emotion left her somewhat at a loss for words about the singer’s passing.

Miley Shares a Private Tribute on Instagram

“The feeling of losing my Aunt Dolly is beyond what feels right to share,” Miley wrote via Instagram. “Our most sacred moments were private and they’ll stay there behind the stage, beneath the glamour & between our hearts.”

Dolly’s role as Miley’s Godmother came in the early 1990s when the young singer was born. At the time, Dolly and Miley’s father, Billy Ray Cyrus, had become good friends after they toured together.

How Did Dolly Parton Become Miley Cyrus’ Godmother?

“He said, ‘You know, we’re having a girl, and you’ve got to be her godmother,’ ” Parton told Howard Stern in 2023. “I said, ‘Well I’d be honored.’ So actually, Miley and I took over from there, and we’ve just stayed very, very close through the years.”

With all of that history, it’s easy to see why Miley and her family feel such a huge loss at the death of Dolly . Sadly, they’re mourning with everyone else who loved her and the legacy she leaves behind.

For now, Miley Cyrus seems to be doing what she said in her tribute, keeping her grief, like her memories with Dolly Parton, close to her heart.
