There are bad driving conditions and then there’s accidentally finding yourself inside a tornado. One Texas woman is going viral after sharing terrifying dashcam footage that looks less like a normal road trip and more like the opening scene of a disaster movie. And just watching the clip is enough to make your palms sweat.
Amanda Marie, a TikToker from Placedo, Texas, posted the now-viral footage showing what started as a pretty ordinary drive down the highway. At first glance, it didn’t even seem that alarming. Sure, there were dark storm clouds looming nearby, but in Texas, dramatic weather is practically part of the scenery.
But things escalated fast. The footage shows Amanda driving while massive storm clouds swirl in the distance, lightning flashing across the sky. She sped up portions of the video, making it even more obvious just how quickly the weather shifted from “stormy” to absolutely terrifying.
Texas Woman Accidentally Drives Through Tornado
Then came the hail and the rain. Then, suddenly, visibility basically disappeared altogether. At one point, the windshield becomes almost completely useless as wind and debris slam into the vehicle. Most people watching the video were probably screaming internally for her to stop driving, but according to Amanda, stopping didn’t feel safe either.
In the comments, she explained she was worried another vehicle might crash into her if she suddenly stopped in the middle of near-zero visibility conditions. So instead, she kept trying to move forward while essentially driving blind through what was becoming a full tornado situation.
Eventually, brief breaks in the storm revealed she had managed to pull off into a grassy area near the road. And according to Amanda, it wasn’t exactly an easy choice. “The left had a rail and I couldn’t pull over until I could see grass and prayed someone else wasn’t stopped.”
That alone sounds stressful enough, but then she added the detail that really made people’s stomachs drop. “You couldn’t tell but my vehicle was moving as if it wanted to lift and flip.”
Miraculously, the storm eventually eased almost as suddenly as it arrived. Amanda was able to pull back onto the highway, where many other drivers had stopped completely with their hazard lights flashing. And the internet was completely horrified. “We’ve got caught in a tornado before and omggg scariest thing ever!!” one viewer commented. Another admitted, “I was scared for my life just seeing this.”
The Internet Was Terrified
Others shared survival advice and personal stories from their own close calls with tornadoes, turning the comments section into a mix of therapy session and emergency preparedness forum. They went on to describe roof tiles smashing through their rear windshield during a tornado encounter, explaining that crouching low and shielding themselves likely prevented injuries.
Meanwhile, many viewers were simply shocked Amanda made it through the situation at all. “That is my worst nightmare! Glad you’re okay!!!” And perhaps the most Texas response of all: “You’re the luckiest girl in Texas!”
The thing about tornadoes is how unpredictable they are. One minute the road looks manageable, and the next minute you’re gripping the steering wheel while your car feels like it’s trying to take flight. That’s exactly why this footage has resonated with so many people. It captures that terrifying moment where instinct, panic, and survival all collide at once.
Thankfully, the Texas woman is safe and sound, and maybe she’ll remember to check the weather and the skies before heading out in the future.
