‘Iconic’ Florida Maid Of Honor Goes Rogue And Uses Wedding Speech To Her Full Advantage: ‘Not Awkward At All’

Florida MOH wedding speech goes viral

One Florida Valentine’s Day wedding ceremony in Tampa turned into a viral moment when the maid of honor decided to add something extra to the reception agenda: her own dating prospects.

Amanda Flanagan, 29, married Phil Flanagan, 31, at Palma Ceia Golf & Country Club in Tampa, Florida, surrounded by 160 guests who likely expected the usual tear-jerking speech from the bride’s sister. Instead, they got romance, comedy, and what might be the boldest live dating pitch of 2026.

Hannah Heiss, 27, stepped up to the mic ready to deliver heartfelt words about her sister’s big day. She had the crowd emotional. She had the bride and groom misty-eyed. And then she pivoted.

“Let’s be real, now that Amanda and Phil are married, I’m the third wheel now,” Heiss joked. And just when guests thought that was the punchline, she kept going. “So, while I still have this microphone, and while I still have this much power, I have to say that I’m single. So, if you have a brother, a coworker, a cousin, a long-lost friend, please find me after. I’ll probably be by the bar.”

The moment was equal parts bold and charming. The bride and groom reportedly went from crying to laughing in seconds, which is honestly the emotional rollercoaster every great speech should deliver.

Two days later, Heiss posted the clip to TikTok with the caption, “If you’re single and you have a maid of honor speech coming up, this is your sign to copy my ending.” The video racked up more than 3.3 million views and 550,000 likes, and suddenly Hannah wasn’t just Tampa’s funniest wedding guest. She was viral.

Naturally, viewers needed answers. “well did it workkkkkk?????” one person begged. Another chimed in, “12/10 speech we have to know if that worked 🤭.” Spoiler: It kind of did.

Speaking about the experience, Heiss admitted she was initially “so nervous” about delivering the speech and putting herself out there. She’d apparently planned her “shameless single plug” for a while and even got permission from the bride and groom beforehand. But what she didn’t expect was the aftermath.

The Speech Went Viral

After being single for about a year and a half and describing her recent dating life as unsuccessful, the wedding toast may have shifted the energy, per PEOPLE. “There may have been a little something with a groomsman,” she revealed. And then casually dropped that she “may or may not be visiting him in New York next weekend, so that’ll be fun.”

Because Heiss lives in Florida and the mystery groomsman is based in New York City, the two have been getting to know each other over the phone. Their first official date will be a full weekend in New York. And the bride and groom will also be in New York that weekend, so it’s basically a reunion tour with a romantic subplot. “It’ll be fun,” Heiss said.

Heiss joked in her caption, “I have boyfriends all over the country now!” And while she’s not seriously entertaining the flood of DMs she’s gotten, she admitted, “Honestly, I’ve been cracking up. In the comments and then also the DMs and the people following me also on my Instagram, it’s been pretty funny reading all these pick-up lines.”

The best part? This wasn’t a cynical stunt. It was playful. It was confident. It was the kind of self-aware moment that makes weddings feel less like stiff formalities and more like real life.

The Internet Loved It

Heiss even encourages other single maid of honors to try it. “I obviously wasn’t expecting it to reach that huge of an audience, it kind of scared me, but I was posting it really for like the niche of people who are maid of honors and single because it was such a silly little sign off at the end,” she explained. “It got people laughing and it was cute, and then it got people talking after. I would 100% recommend it.”

At the very least, she gave the internet a moment. At best, she might’ve landed a long-distance love story that started with a punchline.

“You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take,” one person commented on the video. “This is probably the only maid of honor speech that I have ever seen that was funny cute and not awkward at all,” said another. “This is an iconic sign off,” a third person chimed in.

Either way, this Florida maid of honor proved one thing: if you’re going to shoot your shot, you might as well go big.
