Looks like the Sussex family may be headed for a royal showdown, and it’s not talking about titles or tabloid drama this time. Word on the cobblestone streets is that Prince Harry is strongly considering enrolling his and Meghan Markle’s two kids, Prince Archie (6) and Princess Lilibet (4), in school across the pond, far away from their home in California.
According to royal insiders and former palace staffers, Prince Harry is “very likely” to push for a British education once the kids are older, even though Meghan Markle has allegedly made her stance on the kids trading California for a traditional royal experience clear.
While Harry and Meghan famously ditched their royal roles and relocated to sunny California for a quieter, paparazzi-free life, it seems Harry hasn’t quite closed the door on the monarchy or its traditions. One of those traditions is a proper UK education, naturally (via She Knows).
Prince Harry Wants To Send His Kids To School In The UK
Grant Harrold, who once served as royal butler to King Charles III, chimed in during an interview with Study Dog, saying it’s “very likely and completely possible” the Sussex kiddos could attend school in Britain. “If they have their younger education in America, I’m sure their father will be quite keen to have a bit of a British education,” Harrold explained. He added that it all depends on “how the relationship is with the rest of the family when the time comes.”
But Meghan has already thrown cold water on that idea. Back in 2022, she was very clear about one major reason why she didn’t want Archie attending school in the UK: the relentless paparazzi. In an interview with The Cut, she said she wouldn’t be able to do normal mom things like school drop-offs without being hounded by cameras. “Sorry,” she told the outlet. “I have a problem with that. That doesn’t make me obsessed with privacy. That makes me a strong and good parent protecting my child.”
Fair enough, Meghan. But that doesn’t mean Harry’s given up. It was recently reported that he’s still holding onto the idea that his children could someday take on royal roles if they choose to. That’s why he allegedly wants them to retain their HRH (His/Her Royal Highness) titles, in case they decide they want to join “The Firm” when they grow up.
Will Meghan Markle Let The Kids Leave California?
For now, Archie is attending kindergarten in Montecito, where the family lives a fairly low-key life. According to locals, Archie is “a delightful little boy,” and both kids have largely been kept out of the spotlight. Royal commentator Tom Quinn also suggested earlier this year that the Sussexes likely plan to send their kids to an elite LA-area private school, probably one with other celeb offspring, if Meghan’s Hollywood roots are any indication.
It seems Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have plenty of time to decide whether or not UK schooling would be good for Archie and Lilibet, or if their life in California is in their best interest. Deciding where to send your kids to school is hard enough. Add royal bloodlines, transatlantic drama, and paparazzi to the mix, and it becomes a full-blown international situation.
