Some breakups end with blocked phone numbers, awkward holiday stories, and maybe the occasional grumble years later. But every now and then, a story surfaces that makes ordinary resentment look downright healthy. In New Jersey, one family says they found themselves caught in a deeply unsettling mystery involving behavior so bizarre, petty, and frankly exhausting that people online still cannot believe someone allegedly stayed committed to anger for this long.

At first, it simply looked like repeated acts of vandalism at a loved one’s gravesite. But what grieving family members eventually uncovered left them stunned. And had social media collectively asking one question. Who keeps this level of bitterness alive for nearly half a century?

Linda Louise Torello passed away from cancer in 2017 at age 66. After her death, she was laid to rest at a cemetery in New York, where her family expected she would finally be at peace. Instead, years later, her children say something strange began happening.

New Jersey Husband’s Decades-Old Grudge Refused To Die

In 2022, Linda’s adult children, Michael Murphy and Renee Eichler Barragan, reportedly started arriving at their mother’s gravesite only to discover signs someone had repeatedly targeted it overnight. What they allegedly found was both disturbing and deeply upsetting.

According to reports, bags containing feces and traces of urine kept appearing around the headstone. At first, the incidents seemed random. Maybe cruel vandalism or senseless disrespect. After months of frustration, heartbreak, and confusion, Linda’s children reportedly received permission from cemetery officials to place hidden cameras in nearby trees surrounding the gravesite.

They hoped for answers. What they allegedly captured instead sounded like something pulled from an extremely dark comedy no one asked for. Footage reportedly showed a man arriving around dawn, parking near the gravesite, stepping out of an SUV with the engine still running, and allegedly urinating directly onto the headstone before driving away.

Morning Routine Nobody Saw Coming

And according to multiple reports, the person caught on camera was someone Linda had divorced decades earlier. Yes, decades. But the pattern became impossible to ignore. It was happening almost daily. And someone, apparently, was making an unusual amount of effort.

The man identified in reports was allegedly Linda’s ex-husband from Bergen County, New Jersey. The pair reportedly divorced in 1974 and had not maintained contact since sometime around 1976. Which naturally raises a rather uncomfortable question: What kind of unresolved resentment survives for almost fifty years?

I’m proud of the ex-wife! I envy her power of control from the grave! Reign Queen! Reign from the grave!” one commenter writes.

What actual haunting someone is. This is just sad! Imagine being obsessed with someone for so long,” another adds.

Most people struggle to remember passwords from six months ago. Yet somehow, according to the family, this level of hostility allegedly remained on a consistent schedule. Even more bizarre, reports claimed the man’s current wife was allegedly present in the vehicle during some of the visits. Because apparently, this became a two-person morning activity.

Divorce Drama Apparently Has No Expiration Date

Social media users later joked that if someone is still emotionally invested in revenge after nearly five decades, therapy might be cheaper than gas money. Linda’s children later shared details suggesting the divorce itself had been painful.

According to the family, the marriage allegedly ended after Linda became pregnant and her husband refused to take responsibility for the child. While emotions surrounding old relationships can certainly linger, many online admitted they struggled to understand behavior reportedly continuing years after someone had already passed away.

Despite the family’s distress, reports stated local authorities explained there was little they could do without more direct criminal threats. Police reportedly told the family that because the incidents lacked specific threats of violence, charges were difficult to pursue.

The Pettiest Grudge Of All Time

Still, after the footage gained widespread attention online, the alleged visits reportedly stopped. According to family members, what had strangely become an “almost normal routine” finally came to an end once public attention arrived.

As expected, commenters had opinions. Some called the behavior deeply disturbing and disrespectful. Others leaned into disbelief, joking that maintaining this level of anger for nearly fifty years deserved its own category of emotional endurance.

Many simply asked the obvious question: At what point do you just move on? Because while heartbreak can leave scars, turning bitterness into a long-term hobby. Especially one involving cemetery visits. For Linda Torello’s children, discovering who was allegedly behind the disturbing acts at their mother’s grave brought answers. But also a shocking realization about how deeply resentment can apparently linger.

And while most people eventually leave old relationships in the past, this story left the internet wondering whether some grudges truly ever die.
