Jasmine Hill, a California TikToker has shared her experience after undergoing a procedure meant to lighten her naturally dark brown eyes. The goal was a softer, light brown shade. The result ended up being something she says she never asked for and deeply regrets.
According to Hill, the unnamed California doctor performed the pigment procedure on one eye first, then handed her a mirror. What she saw immediately raised alarms. Instead of the warm brown tone she had requested, her eye appeared blue-green. Not exactly a subtle shift.
Still, despite noticing the color mismatch right away, she went through with the second eye procedure. Almost immediately, things escalated beyond cosmetic disappointment.
California Woman’s Eye Color Change Surgery Goes Terribly Wrong
In a video, Hill described the physical aftermath in blunt terms. “I could be in the house trying to watch TV and it was torture. I could have on the darkest shades and the smallest amount of light that would hit it was just excruciating discomfort,” she explained. Beyond the extreme light sensitivity, she also began experiencing vision problems.
Eye color change surgery isn’t exactly mainstream. While colored contacts have been around forever, surgically implanting pigment into the eye is widely considered controversial and, in some circles, risky. Hill says she sought answers from four separate eye doctors after the procedure. According to her, each consultation ended the same way: no one could improve her symptoms. That’s when the situation moved from medical concern to legal territory.
She hired a lawyer. But instead of resolution, she says she received a cease and desist email from the very doctor who performed the surgery about four weeks after retaining legal counsel. Hill had been documenting her symptoms on TikTok as they developed.
In the video, she reads from the letter: “The cease and desist says, ’13 patients to date have cancelled their [procedure] citing the reason is Jasmine’s video that named doctor Blah Blah Blah.’” The letter reportedly claimed her posts had caused approximately $156,000 in lost business.
It Turned Into A Legal Nightmare
At that point, things became less about eye color and more about damage control. Hill says her attorney met with the doctor’s legal team to negotiate what she describes as a “common ground for a settlement agreement.” They ultimately agreed on a $14,000 refund.
However, the settlement came with strict conditions. She could not mention the doctor’s name, the business name, the pigment manufacturer, or even the city or state where the surgery occurred. An addendum later requested she remove all videos about the procedure entirely, even ones that didn’t mention the doctor, along with unrelated content that could reveal her location.
Hill captioned her video carefully: “Legal Disclaimer: Everything said in this video is my opinion based off my personal experience.” Notably, while she never directly named the physician in her posts, she did “like” a comment suggesting the doctor was Brian Boxer Wachler, a TikTok-famous eye doctor.
The Internet Reacts
“Girl don’t sign that agreement,” one person wrote in the comment section of the video. “To spend all that money only to buy everlasting pain,” said another. “Cease and desist my foot!! You have the freedom of speech,” a third person stated. “I’m sorry this is happening to you,” a fourth comment read.
The California woman’s experience underscores a truth that often gets buried under filters and before-and-after photos: just because something is available doesn’t mean it’s risk-free.
