According to reports, Coleman, was typically earning $16.50 an hour from her Arkansas job. However, due to a major system error, her pay rate was accidentally calculated at $1,650 an hour for a single shift. That small decimal shift turned into a massive financial windfall, totaling over $19,000 in extra pay, per BSO.

Now here’s where things start to get messy. Instead of flagging the issue or reaching out to her employer, Coleman reportedly kept the money. Payroll mistakes happen, but there’s usually an unspoken rule: if you’re overpaid, you return it. Apparently, that didn’t happen here.

Arkansas Woman Mistakenly Given $20,000 Extra In Pay, Refuses To Give It Back

When the company realized the error, they reached out in an attempt to recover the funds. That’s when things allegedly took a turn. According to an affidavit, “When the error was noticed, Coleman refused to pay back the money.” And just like that, what could have been a quick correction turned into a full-blown legal situation. From there, the stakes escalated fast.

Authorities got involved after the employer provided documentation to back up their claims, including financial records and communications. A detective reportedly contacted Coleman, and while she initially agreed to speak with police, she never showed up. That decision only added fuel to the fire, ultimately leading to a warrant being issued for her arrest. Soon after, she was taken into custody.

Now, Coleman is facing a felony charge for theft involving more than $5,000 but less than $25,000, a serious accusation that could come with major consequences. Her bond has been set at $15,000, and she’s expected to appear in court in mid-May. It’s a pretty dramatic turn of events for what started as a simple mistake.
