Butcher and Blackbird was a dark romance hit with many fans. So, when it was announced the Amazon studios planned to adapt the book into a film, fans immediately began talking about who may play the main characters, Sloane Sutherland and Rowan Kane. Deadline reports that Emma Laird and Thomas Doherty will star in the film.

Laird will play Sloane. She’s known for her roles in 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple and the BBC series Mint. She also has several upcoming projects including Neuromancer on Apple TV, Elden Ring, The Housekeeper, Blood on Snow, and Season 2 of the HBO series, War.
As for the actor playing Rowan, Thomas Doherty is a familiar face. The Scottish actor has appeared in fan-favorite projects such as Gossip Girl, Tell Me Lies, High Fidelity, Catherine the Great, and Paradise. He also voiced a project on the erotica app, Quinn.
Will The Entire Ruinous Love Trilogy Be Adapted?
Butcher and Blackbird was released in 2023 as the first book in Weaver’s Ruinous Love Trilogy. Fans are now hoping that the other two books, Leather and Lark and Scythe and Sparrow will also be adapted. However, no news has been confirmed on that front.
The two sequel books featured the characters of Rowan and Sloane, but focus on Rowan’s brothers, Lachlan and Fionn, as they navigate their own love stories that are twisted with murderous plotlines.

Fans of the book had plenty of reactions to the casting news. “Wait, seriously?! That’s awesome!” one person commented via TikTok. “THOMAS?!?! DOHERTY?!? Oh the book community is winning,” another wrote.

Amazon also recently released an adaptation of the Ali Hazelwood novel, The Love Hypothesis. Fans are simply over the moon with all of the book adaptations, and it seems that they have a lot to look forward to.
