What started as a peaceful Father’s Day outing quickly spiraled into a real-life horror scene for Washington dad Kevin Ewing and his family. While enjoying a walk along Dash Point Beach at Dash Point State Park on June 15, Ewing came across something that looked festive. But turned out to be anything but.
Tied neatly with a yellow string and wrapped in a green cloth, the package resembled a Christmas present or perhaps a spiritual offering. Intrigued, Washington native Ewing picked it up, curious about its contents. He assumed it might be a symbolic prayer bundle, given his Native American heritage, or even a modern take on a message in a bottle. But when he opened it, reality hit hard, according to People Magazine.
Inside the decorative cloth was a taped-shut pine box. Carefully opening it, the surprised Washington man discovered a strange collection of items. Inside the bizarre box was a pocket knife, herbs like sage and lavender, grass, tobacco, and a feather. But wrapped in a rag inside the box was the most shocking item of all. A severed human big toe.

The father who found the box wondered if there is “somebody out there playing some kind of, you know, weird, weird and sick game” and if the toe belongs to a missing person.
Mysterious Gift-Wrapped Box Raises Alarm In Washington
The unsettling discovery stopped Ewing in his tracks. At first, disbelief set in, but the grim reality quickly followed. And nearby? A mutilated seagull, skinned and left behind as if part of a grim ritual. Whether the two disturbing finds are connected remains unknown.
After the shocking beach discovery, Ewing contacted a park ranger, and the Washington State Patrol stepped in. Officials confirmed the severed toe had been sent to the King County Medical Examiner’s Office for DNA testing. The goal? To identify the victim and determine if the body part matches any open missing persons or criminal cases.

According to the Washington police incident report, the toe likely belonged to an adult male. But who is he, and how did he lose his toe? Whether this was a sick prank, a crime scene, or something far more ritualistic all remains to be seen.
As investigators dig deeper into this bizarre beachside mystery, one question continues to haunt both Ewing and officials: Was this box meant to be found? Or was it washed ashore by chance? Either way, a severed toe in a gift-wrapped box isn’t your average beach treasure. And somewhere, someone knows exactly why it was there.
