In a story that feels ripped straight out of a Paranormal Activity reboot, one Louisiana woman has found herself living in what may be the creepiest rental mystery the internet has seen in a while. It’s not only scary, but it’s leaving everyone weighing in and scratching their heads about what might be going on in her house.
The Louisiana renter tells Reddit that she’s moved into a pretty standard-looking house with roommates. All seems normal, bedrooms, bathrooms, and unpacked boxes. Then comes that room. It’s located just up the stairs, nestled between two regular bedrooms, and yet no one has access to it. The door is short, and behind it lies what she describes as one of the largest rooms in the house. Oh, and it’s got two blacked-out windows facing the front of the house. However, that’s not the creepiest part.
“We keep hearing furniture being moved across the floor, loud banging like someone falling to the floor or dropping something and occasional speaking like perhaps from a television?” she shared.
Louisiana Woman’s Creepy Attic May Be Holding A Spooky Secret
She’s living with what sounds like a fully-functioning mystery room, complete with its own A/C, which none of the actual bedrooms have, apparently, strange cold drafts, and what might be someone’s Netflix binge echoing through the walls. All while her landlord dodges any questions about it. Seriously, when asked directly, he just reiterates the number of bedrooms and bathrooms in the lease like a weird NPC glitching mid-conversation.
“The rooms are so hot up there that we can’t stand to be up there, but this attic room radiates cold air when you pull on the door.”
That line alone deserves its own horror movie tagline. For a while, she and her roommates tried to brush it off. They assumed maybe one of them was just moving things around. However, one even swore he wasn’t doing anything, but they chalked it up to regular “new house noise.” That is, until everyone was together in the same room and still heard the unsettling clatter from above.
“I’ve been sketched out by it for sure but I’ve been trying to ignore what I thought was just in my head,” she admitted. Who hasn’t tried to pretend weird house sounds don’t exist after dark? Reddit, naturally, has jumped in with all the theories from secret squatter to hidden panic room to some kind of bootleg X-Files setup. But the most chilling part isn’t even what might be in there, it’s the vibe.
The Internet Is Intrigued
The room is sealed off. Attic access areas have been popcorn-ceilinged over. You can still see the indentations where they once were. It’s as if someone went out of their way to erase any trace of it… except the noises.
She even compared the situation to living life on “hardcore mode” in a video game, noting, “I don’t think the merchant’s got enough health sprays for me on this one.”
So what now? She’s losing sleep, and the landlord remains tight-lipped. Whether it’s a tenant lost in the walls, an architectural oversight, or a southern-style ghost who likes to rearrange furniture at 3 a.m., something’s clearly not right.
“Have you ever just knocked on the door to see if you get any knocks back? Try and let us know what happens,” one person commented. She eventually responded, revealing that after knocking the room gets quiet, but later they’d hear pacing noises. Another commented, “Perhaps call the police and/or fire department and say you fear for your safety and think there is someone malicious behind there?”
It looks like this Louisiana woman and her roommates may have a big mystery on their hands. Hopefully, there’s a reasonable explanation for the creepy attic situation.
