A Texas woman says she found herself in what initially seemed like a harmless interaction took a weird turn. TikTok creator Dev, who posts under the username @devmcdaddy, shared the story online after an uncomfortable encounter at her apartment complex pool left her feeling deeply uneasy. And judging by the reaction online, a lot of people understood exactly why her instincts kicked in.
The whole thing started pretty normally. Dev explained that she headed down to the pool at her Texas apartment complex, which conveniently sits right below her balcony. At the time, there were only two other women there.
One woman was apparently taking pictures of the other, who was dressed up in heels near the pool area. Dev said she mostly kept to herself and settled on the opposite side of the pool while casually staying aware of her surroundings.
Texas Woman Feels Off After Pool Interaction
As she lounged there with sunglasses on, occasionally opening her eyes to check the area around her, things suddenly shifted. According to Dev, the two women eventually started approaching her. One of them struck up a conversation by complimenting her appearance.
“Oh my god, you’re so pretty,” the woman reportedly told her. At first, the interaction didn’t seem alarming. The woman explained that she and her friend needed to use the bathroom and asked if Dev could keep an eye on their belongings while they stepped away.
Trying to be nice, Dev agreed. The women returned shortly afterward, and for a moment, it seemed like the interaction was over. But then one of them came back again, allegedly wanting to thank her personally. That’s when the situation started feeling strange.
Dev said the woman offered her a hug, which she accepted despite finding it somewhat awkward. But after the hug, the woman didn’t leave. Instead, she lingered nearby and continued talking nonstop. “She’s still talking, like, just going on and on and on,” Dev recalled.
It’s About Safety
According to her, the woman also appeared intoxicated and mentioned she had only met the other woman two weeks earlier. Then came another odd request: she wanted Dev to meet her friend, too. At that point, Dev decided she’d had enough social interaction for one afternoon.
She politely declined and told them she was heading back to her Texas apartment. But instead of walking directly past the women to get home, she intentionally took the longer route around the pool because something about the exchange didn’t sit right with her.
That uneasy feeling only got worse later. After leaving the pool area and relocating to another pool entirely, Dev said she couldn’t shake the feeling that something was off. So she checked her Ring camera footage.
And that’s where things became genuinely creepy. According to Dev, the footage showed the two women walking past the entrance to her apartment. At one point, one of them allegedly noticed the camera, pointed toward Dev’s unit, and then moved out of the camera’s view.
“She points at my apartment,” Dev said while reviewing the footage in her TikTok video. What bothered her most was that earlier footage from before the pool interaction showed the women walking by her apartment without paying any attention to it whatsoever. But afterward, they suddenly seemed interested in the location.
The Internet Sees Red Flags
That detail especially rattled Dev because she revealed that her previous apartment had actually been broken into while she was home. “That’s the only reason why I’m in this apartment is because of safety,” she explained.
The story quickly sparked debate online, with many viewers telling her to trust her instincts. Others argued the women may have simply been intoxicated and socially awkward rather than dangerous.
“This is creepy af,” one person commented. “Very weird,” another stated. “Intuition doesn’t lie,” a third person added. “Always trust your gut instinct,” a fourth person agreed.
When it comes to personal safety, especially after experiencing a break-in, people tend to rely heavily on gut feelings. And in situations like this, sometimes feeling uncomfortable is enough reason to stay cautious. Thankfully, the Texas woman is okay and is very aware of her surroundings.
