One Wisconsin woman found herself living through what basically sounds like the opening scene of a horror movie after checking her doorbell camera and spotting a face staring back at her from outside her home.

Wisconsin TikTok user Melody shared the chilling experience online after receiving a late-night notification from her home security app. According to her, she had just gotten home sometime after 2 a.m. and went through her normal routine. She parked, went inside, locked the doors, and started getting ready for bed like usual.

Then came the alert. At around 2:51 a.m., her camera app notified her that motion had been detected outside her front door. Normally that would already feel unsettling at that hour, but what she allegedly discovered when she checked the footage took things to another level.

Wisconsin Woman’s Doorbell Alerts Her To Creepy Man Standing Outside

“If anyone knows this man let me know because he looks f—ing crazy,” Melody said at the beginning of her now-viral TikTok. Unfortunately, Melody explained that the app she uses requires a subscription to fully replay recorded footage. However, she was still able to save a screenshot of whatever triggered the camera.

The image showed a strange face peering toward the camera with one dark-looking eye visible and its mouth hanging open in a way that viewers online described as downright disturbing. Some people compared the figure to a “cryptid,” while others joked that it looked like something straight out of a low-budget horror film.

A lot of viewers immediately told Melody she should have contacted police after seeing the image, especially since she believed someone may have followed her home after she arrived late that night. Others admitted they would’ve packed a bag and moved immediately after seeing something that unsettling on their camera feed.

But instead of panicking completely, Melody apparently came up with a surprisingly clever way to handle the situation. Rather than confront the person directly, she used her doorbell microphone to play a YouTube video featuring a man’s voice. Her goal was to make whoever was outside believe she wasn’t alone inside the house.

Even The Internet Was Scared

For women living alone especially, safety tricks like this have become weirdly common online. From keeping men’s boots by the front door to pretending someone else is home, many women have shared the lengths they go to just to feel secure. Thankfully, Melody said the tactic appeared to work because the person eventually left.

Still, the entire experience clearly rattled her. She later mentioned she planned to get an SD card for her security system so she could properly save future footage if anything else happened. And after this incident went viral, people online were definitely invested in whether there would be updates.

“This is your sign to pay for the subscription,” one person commented. “My soul left my body,” said another. “That was a jump scare,” a third person chimed in. “Looks like a ghost to me,” a fourth comment read.

Stories like this one out of Wisconsin always hit differently because they tap into a very real fear. There’s something deeply unsettling about realizing someone may have been outside your home while you were completely unaware. Add in the fact that it happened close to 3 a.m. with a creepy face staring into a camera, and it’s easy to see why the internet became obsessed with the story.
