Simple errands are supposed to be simple. Run in, grab what you need, get back to your car, and move on with your day. But one Texas woman’s ordinary stop at a Dollar General took a sharp turn into something unsettling. She walked in thinking only about a cute little gift project. Yet something in the atmosphere felt off. She just couldn’t place it at first.
What began as a harmless shopping trip shifted into an unnerving situation for TikTok user @yourneighborhooddilfffff. One that left her shaken and certain she had narrowly avoided something dangerous.

The Texas woman says she was browsing Dollar General, picking out items for a DIY basket for her partner. While minding her own business, she realized a stranger was closing in on her personal space. At first, she brushed it off. Stores get crowded. People get weirdly close without thinking.
But then the stranger lingered. Followed. Reappeared. The shopper changed aisles to shake the odd behavior, heading toward another section of the store, yet the same woman appeared again. And again. And she wasn’t alone. Her phone buzzed constantly as she texted someone. The Irving, Texas, woman tried to calm her nerves, convincing herself that she was overreacting. Then things escalated.
This is when her panic became full-blown. She says two men entered the store and began moving similarly to the woman. Never grabbing items, not shopping, just lurking closely by. No matter which aisle the shopper slipped into, at least one person in the trio appeared. At that point, the unsettling feeling became undeniable.
Simple Shopping Trip Takes a Hard Left
She trusted her instincts and moved toward the front of the store, trying to put distance between herself and the group. Before she made it out, one of the men located her again and locked eyes. He held no merchandise in hand and seemingly had no reason to be there.
Only after the Texas trio left empty-handed did she finally walk out. However, she took extreme caution to ensure she wasn’t being followed to her car or onto the road home. Moments like this are becoming far too common, not just in Texas, but everywhere.
Women are constantly told to relax. Not to assume the worst, and not to be “dramatic.” But the truth is chilling. Being out alone, even picking up snacks or gift supplies, can require a tactical awareness plan. After sharing her story, other women, especially those in Texas, said they’ve had eerily similar experiences.
Safety First
Some reported being trailed in major chain stores, others in parking lots. One woman said men followed her and even switched aisles to keep up. Another said she only felt safe once she reunited with a family member.
Many Texas locals say certain areas have earned a reputation for this kind of behavior. Crime statistics back it up. Some neighborhoods, not only in Texas but everywhere, rank poorly for safety. So women across the country are advising each other to stay alert and trust their instincts.
“Been living in Irving my whole life. And it’s gotten so bad. I hate it here now,” one woman writes.
“LADIES. Go get that license!” another urges.
“It’s not safe anywhere,” one more warns.
Your instincts exist for a reason. If a place, a person, or a situation feels wrong. You don’t owe anyone an explanation. Leave the aisle. Leave the store. Leave immediately. Better to feel silly for a few minutes than sorry for a lifetime. Stay aware. Stay prepared. And above all. Trust yourself.
