Life in California may look like a dream for most people: sunshine, sprawling estates, chicken coops, and surf lessons for the kids. However, Prince Harry isn’t quite feeling it anymore. According to royal insiders, the Duke of Sussex is desperate to pack up the Montecito lifestyle with Meghan Markle and return to his old role within the House of Windsor. The only problem is that his family in Britain doesn’t seem too eager to roll out the red carpet.
Before Prince Harry embarked on an awkward four-day “pseudo-royal” tour of the UK this week, word got out that his deepest hope is to bring Meghan Markle and their children, Archie, and Lilibet back across the pond and reconcile with the royals. However, the California sunshine can’t erase the years of drama that unfolded after he and Meghan stepped down from their duties. And if you think King Charles is the one standing in the way, think again. Insiders say the biggest roadblock is Prince William, per The Daily Mail.
While King Charles is reportedly eager to see more of his grandchildren, William isn’t ready to play nice. Palace sources point out that during Harry’s supposed “reconciliation” trip, his big brother made himself completely unavailable, too busy with “official engagements elsewhere.” Meanwhile, William could have made time if he wanted to, but he didn’t. That says a lot.
Prince Harry Hopes To Leave California And Return To Royal Duties
Prince William and Kate Middleton have carried a heavy load since Harry and Meghan’s very public exit. With the Princess of Wales recently undergoing cancer treatment and King Charles battling his own health challenges, the working royals have been stretched thin. Add in Harry’s bombshell memoir Spare and that explosive Oprah interview, and it’s no wonder William is wary. The trust just isn’t there anymore.
What makes this situation even stickier is the talk of titles. Harry still holds his HRH style and dukedom, but royal watchers believe William, once king, could strip them away. There’s precedent for it, Diana and Fergie both lost their HRH after stepping away from duties.
Some may say that Harry’s behavior since leaving makes both of those royal scandals look mild in comparison. If William were to flex his authority, removing Harry’s titles would send a crystal-clear message that there’s no coming back.
The UK May Not Want Him Back
The irony is hard to ignore. Harry and Meghan once had the perfect setup: youth, charisma, and a role in shaping the future of the monarchy. Instead, they cashed in for Hollywood deals, Netflix cameras, and life in California luxury. And now, after burning so many bridges, Harry seems to think he can just return as if nothing happened. The problem is, the royals (and the British public) don’t seem interested in playing along.
“Harry seriously betrayed William. It’s not that easy to forgive that kind of hurt. But hopefully he can forgive him one day. Maybe after Harry’s has proven he can be trusted again,” one person commented. “It’s not just William. Nobody wants them,” another stated. “He wants to come back because his dream fantasy project US has had the wheels fall off it,” a third person chimed in.
At the end of the day, Prince Harry may be realizing what California couldn’t give him: a sense of duty, belonging, and acceptance. But the harsh reality is that he may never find that back in Britain either. The royals don’t forget easily, and William especially isn’t known for second chances. So unless Harry is ready to live out his days feeding chickens and surfing in Montecito, he may have to accept that his royal chapter is officially closed.
