Despite stepping away from royal duties back in 2020, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are reportedly back with a wish list of three bold “demands” they’re rumored to want fulfilled if there’s ever going to be a royal reunion with King Charles.
According to royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams, any chance of reconciliation between the Sussexes and the royal family won’t come without strings. In fact, Fitzwilliams predicts that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are prepared to negotiate, but only if certain terms are met, per Express.
So, what exactly are they asking for? For starters, Fitzwilliams says the couple wants public contact with King Charles, including official photo ops with not only Harry and Meghan but also their kids—Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. Let’s be honest, those pictures would do wonders for the Sussex brand. As Fitzwilliams bluntly put it, “The photo opportunities which transpired would be of immeasurable use to the Sussexes’ brand.”

And he’s not wrong. After the couple’s bombshell interview with Oprah and their explosive Netflix docuseries, it’s clear the Sussexes know how to generate headlines and control their narrative. A warm-and-fuzzy royal photo op would be an instant PR win.
The second demand? Some kind of public acknowledgment or “contract.” This means that they want things to be official. Something more than private words or vague gestures. After all the public fallout and security battles, including Harry’s most recent failed attempt to get UK police protection, it seems the couple wants formal recognition and boundaries set in stone.
And third, perhaps the most controversial of all, is the future of their children within the royal fold. According to Fitzwilliams, the Sussexes want their children to have the option to become working royals someday. That’s right, despite ditching royal duties themselves, Harry and Meghan reportedly want Archie and Lili to be able to jump back into the monarchy if they choose.
To be fair, Archie and Lilibet technically became prince and princess after King Charles ascended the throne. This was thanks to an age-old royal rule that grants those titles to grandchildren of the monarch through the male line. But working royals? That’s a whole different ballgame and not one Charles or Prince William is likely eager to play.

Still, Harry’s recent remarks suggest time might be a factor in this royal standoff. As his father battles cancer, Harry has publicly pleaded for reconciliation, saying he hopes to make peace “before it’s too late.” There was even talk of inviting King Charles to the 2027 Invictus Games, though some say the invitation would come from the organization, not Harry himself.
It’s hard to say where this leaves things with the royals. On one hand, there’s a clear desire for reconnection, at least from Harry’s side. But with such pointed demands and lingering distrust, the path forward looks rocky. One insider even said, “If the king accepted it, this would involve public contact with Harry and almost certainly Meghan and his grandchildren.”
