A woman in Ohio took to social media recently to share a horrifying experience that sounds more like something out of a psychological thriller than a routine rental situation. In her emotional post, the woman says her landlord has repeatedly sexually harassed her, making inappropriate advances, offering money and rent discounts for sex, and even showing up uninvited to places she went just to avoid him.

According to a Reddit post, the harassment started with inappropriate propositions from the Ohio landlord. The woman claims her landlord tried to “pay [her] for sex” and even offered to take money “off the rent for it.” From there, things escalated. She alleges he tried to kiss her, pulled up her shirt, and was constantly asking around about her whereabouts, making not only her but also other tenants uncomfortable.

“I went to a local laundromat to avoid him,” she writes, “and he showed up there.”

One of the more terrifying incidents she describes involved the landlord using the excuse of changing an air filter at 8:30 p.m., while she was putting her 3-year-old child to sleep. After telling him she wasn’t interested in “hanging out,” she says she went to her room… only to come back 30 minutes later and find him sitting in her living room.

Fortunately, the woman isn’t without evidence. She says she has a recording of the landlord asking for sex and even admitting to having had “arrangements” with another tenant 15 years ago. She also has a photo of his hand on her leg. And while she says there’s “no proof” of earlier incidents, she does have witnesses other tenants who allegedly heard the landlord asking where she was and admitted they’re scared of him too.

She ended the post with a heartbreaking plea: “What do I do? Can I put him in jail? Can I sue him?”

In Ohio and under federal law, sexual harassment by a landlord is illegal. The Fair Housing Act protects tenants from harassment based on sex, and what this woman describes could very well fall under both criminal behavior and civil violations.

Redditors Tell Her To Take Legal Action

“You can and should report this to the police,” one person commented on the post.

“You have witnesses and proof. Lawyer up,” another stated.

“You need to get hidden cameras immediately and gather everything that you can,” a third person wrote.

While the Reddit post doesn’t mention if she’s moved forward with legal action yet, one thing is clear: this is unacceptable behavior, and landlords like this one in Ohio should absolutely be held accountable. Because everyone deserves to feel safe in their own home, and no one should ever have to trade their dignity for rent.
