HBO’s TLOU adaptation has really set the bar for video game-based TV or movies. However, after a lot of mixed feelings regarding the series’ second season. Many are wondering when season three will be out, or if there will be one at all. Well, there will, in fact, be a The Last of Us Season 3. However, the timetable for the show’s return isn’t so cut and dry.
The Decider claims HBO has struck gold with The Last of US. However, after a lackluster season two, what is next for the show? Well, season three will be following the games’ second main character, Abby. Abby is most known for killing the game’s first main character, Joel Miller. Fans did get that far in season one as they saw Joel, played by Pedro Pascal, meet his untimely end. This was the start of the issues that show only fans had with this season.
The Last of Us Season 3 Will Have a New Main Character
Season three of TLOU will follow Abby as viewers will see what she has been up to all those faithful days in Seattle. Abby’s story will be taking place during the events that happen to Ellie in the game and show. The two stories collide as seen at the end of season 2 when Abby shows up at the theater.
“There is another side to this story that we have yet to really delve into,” said co-creator and showrunner Craig Mazin during a recent virtual press conference. “There’s no question that Abby is the hero of her story. Kaitlyn Dever is the hero of a story, always, you know? I mean, if you have Kaitlyn Dever, you use a Kaitlyn Dever.”
The Last of Us Season 3 promises answers. Who’s dead, and who’s still breathing, will be revealed, and fans will freak. The showrunners have teased many things that are to come, even a third installment of the critically acclaimed video game. While nothing is confirmed on that front as of now, anything can happen.
As for those waiting for The Last of Us Season 3, a release date of 2027 seems to be the best bet. While fans will surely be upset that they have to wait around two years for their favorite characters to return, hopefully, it will all be worth the wait. However, for now, reruns the playing the games will have to do, as fans around the globe patiently await the return of HBO’s TLOU.
