Weddings are known for bringing out big emotions, big decisions, and sometimes surprisingly personal transformations. And for one Hawaii couple, the lead-up to their long-awaited “I do” moment has come with a change that’s sparking plenty of conversation online.
Rebecca Grandy and her soon-to-be wife, Breanna, aren’t your typical brides-to-be. The couple has spent over a decade building a life together, and they’ve done it largely on their own terms. Living what Rebecca describes as an “off-grid” lifestyle in Hawaii, the pair has embraced a more natural, low-maintenance approach to daily life. That includes something a lot of people might not even think twice about: body hair, per PEOPLE.
In fact, Rebecca revealed that she and her soon-to-be Hawaii wife haven’t removed “any hair” from their bodies for nearly ten years. No shaving, no trimming, not even haircuts. It’s a choice that clearly reflects their lifestyle and personal values and one they’ve stuck to for almost a decade.
Hawaii Couple Shaves Their Body Hair For The First Time In Years
But now with their wedding day finally on the horizon after an 11-year engagement, they decided to switch things up in a way that surprised even them. In an Instagram post shared in April, Rebecca opened up about the couple’s unexpected pre-wedding decision: shaving their armpits for the first time in years. And yes, it was a big deal.
“With our wedding coming up next month, we both felt that our armpit hair and our beautiful wedding dresses just didn’t flow together the way we would like. So we took the plunge and shaved them!” she wrote.
It’s honestly one of those moments that feels both deeply personal and oddly relatable. Weddings have a way of making people rethink everything from hairstyles to outfits to, apparently, grooming habits that have been untouched for nearly a decade.
Still, Rebecca admitted she had some hesitation going into it. After so many years of being used to her natural state, she wasn’t sure how she’d feel afterward. “I was worried” she shared, explaining that she thought she “wouldn’t be able to stand the skin on skin rubbing.”
“To be honest it’s really comfortable,” she admitted, sounding pleasantly surprised by the whole experience. What makes this story even more interesting is the timing. This isn’t a couple rushing into marriage or making impulsive changes.
Living Off The Grid
Rebecca and Breanna have been engaged for over a decade, slowly building toward this moment in their own way. Back in December, Rebecca shared the milestone of finally locking in a date and venue, writing, “Breanna and I officially set our wedding date and have the venue booked.”
And you can feel the excitement in her words. “Such an exciting step and journey we are about to be embarking on after being engaged for 11 years now. I love you eternally and can’t wait to be your wife.”
There’s something refreshing about that kind of timeline in a world that often rushes everything. This couple took their time and now that the big day is approaching, even the smallest details are getting thoughtful attention.
At the end of the day, this isn’t really about shaving or not shaving. It’s about the Hawii couple doing what feels right for them, whether that means sticking to their usual routine or making a change for a once-in-a-lifetime moment.
