What should have been a quick, easy dinner solution turned into a full-blown financial nightmare for one Georgia family. A metro Atlanta mom, identified as Nina Lloyd, says her world flipped upside down in a matter of minutes after placing a routine takeout order from Bonchon.

According to Lloyd, the checkout process didn’t go exactly as expected. Instead, she was redirected to what appeared to be a verification page. Nothing too alarming at first glance. However, that’s where things took a terrifying turn.

“Immediately following, within a matter of a couple of minutes, I got a text that said I initiated a wire transfer for $9,900,” she explained. Nearly $10,000 gone. Just like that. And this wasn’t just random spending money. The Georgia mother revealed that the funds had come from an inheritance left to her by her late aunt, making the loss hit even harder.

Georgia Family Loses Everything After Routine Takeout Order Goes Wrong

“I didn’t believe it was real. At all. I was like, this has to be some kind of mistake. There’s no way,” she said. To make matters worse, the timing couldn’t have been more brutal. Her husband had recently lost his job, meaning that money wasn’t just sitting there, it was their safety net. Their backup plan and sense of security.

“We were actually really, really relieved that we had a little bit of cushion and security, and now we have literally nothing,” Lloyd shared. The wife and mother believes the issue may have stemmed from a fake or compromised page during checkout, something that looked legitimate enough to fool even a cautious user. And that’s the scary part. This wasn’t some random shady link she clicked. It happened while ordering directly through what she believed was a trusted source.

“For me, I always thought the safest way to order food would be going directly through the website,” she said. “But I’ve learned that it’s not.” She’s now working with her bank in hopes of recovering the money, but as of now, there’s no guarantee she’ll ever see it again.

$10K Gone In A Matter Of Seconds

Meanwhile, Bonchon’s corporate office has acknowledged the situation and says it’s being investigated, but that doesn’t exactly fix what’s already been lost. This kind of scam is becoming way more common than people realize. Online payment fraud is evolving fast, and situations like this show just how convincing and devastating it can be.

“Every time you use a card you’re at risk,” one person commented. “Never use a bank card. Use a credit card,” suggested another.

It’s an unfortunate situation for this Georgia family. Hopefully, they can get it figured out and their money is returned to them sooner rather than later.
