A picture-perfect engagement at one of the most stunning landmarks in St. Louis took a turn straight out of a true-crime documentary. A Missouri couple’s magical moment inside the breathtaking Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis was completely derailed when a stranger wandered directly into their engagement video and casually confessed to being a murderer.
The wild moment comes from TikTok user @avareynolds23, whose account belongs to a woman named Ava Reynolds. Her profile is nearly empty, with only three videos posted, but all three tell one unbelievably chaotic story: how her engagement was hijacked by a man spilling what sounded like the world’s worst confession.
The video starts off like any romantic proposal clip you’d see from a couple. A beautiful cathedral, soft lighting, and her soon-to-be fiancé, beginning to pour his heart out. Everything is sweet and sentimental. That is, until a random man just strolls directly into the frame.
Missouri Man Interrupts Couple’s Engagement To Confess To Murder
Before anyone can even process what’s happening, he blurts out, “I’m a murderer, I’m a murderer. I need help. I’ve killed plenty of people. I do not want to kill anyone else.”
Someone off-camera, likely the videographer, immediately tries to redirect him out of the shot or at least calm him down. However, the man keeps going. He kneels down and continues unloading, almost like he’s desperate to confess to the first people he sees. Meanwhile, Ava and her boyfriend are stuck in the background, completely blindsided as their engagement turns into a horror-movie subplot.
Luckily, Ava didn’t leave viewers hanging. She later posted an update explaining what happened after her video blew up. According to her, the man’s neighbor reached out with a disturbing backstory. The neighbor claimed the man hadn’t been home for three weeks, and when he finally returned, he allegedly had bloody knuckles. The explanation he reportedly gave was that he had an altercation with his cousin.
TikTok Was Horrified
Naturally, that only intensified the concern. Ava explained that she, her fiancé, and the neighbor have all been in contact with St. Louis police in hopes of figuring out whether the man’s confession was real or the result of a mental health emergency. Considering the gravity of what he said, officials are reportedly looking into the situation, though no confirmation about any actual crimes has been made public yet.
“I do believe this is an original experience,” one person commented on the video. “I thought this was a skit,” another wrote. “This is very scary,” a third person added. “Feel like I’m super early to what’s going to be an insane Netflix documentary,” a fourth comment read.
Hopefully, the entire encounter turns out to be a mental health crisis rather than something far more sinister. Still, there’s no denying it: this Missouri couple now has one of the most unforgettable and unsettling engagement stories imaginable.
