Sometimes the smallest change makes the biggest difference, and in the case of one Arizona woman, it’s something no one would expect to matter, but apparently does. The woman is going viral after sharing what she calls a simple “fix” to a frustrating problem she kept running into with food deliveries. And while her solution worked instantly, it’s also raising a lot of questions about why it worked in the first place.
Jen, an Arizona-based TikTok creator, usually posts content about rescuing animals, along with some humor mixed in. But one recent video took a different turn and clearly struck a nerve. The clip quickly blew up, racking up over a million views and sparking a flood of reactions.
Her issue was that DoorDash deliveries weren’t exactly contactless. According to Jen, despite specifically selecting contactless delivery, she kept encountering drivers who would wait outside her door or even knock and ring the bell until she came out to grab the food. And it wasn’t just a one-time thing.
She explained that this kept happening repeatedly, even when she tried to make her instructions extra clear. At one point, she even added a message explaining that she had COVID and couldn’t come outside, hoping that would make drivers leave the order at the door without interaction. It didn’t work.
Arizona Woman Changes Her DoorDash Name And Sees Big Difference
“Maybe these people just aren’t seeing the instructions,” she said, clearly trying to make sense of the situation. But after dealing with it over and over again, she decided to try something she had seen someone else do online something that, on the surface, feels almost too simple.
She changed her name on the app. Not to a nickname or a variation, she switched it to a traditionally male name: John. And according to her, the results were immediate. “It hasn’t happened once,” she said, referring to drivers waiting around or knocking on her door.
That’s it. Same address and instructions. Same person ordering. Different name, completely different experience. Naturally, the internet had thoughts. “This is very alarming,” one person commented, echoing what a lot of people seemed to be feeling.
Another user chimed in with their own experience: “I’ve changed my Name from Jess To Jeff. No issues and yes! I get bigger portions.” Others didn’t necessarily notice changes in food quantity, but did see a difference in how deliveries were handled.
The Internet Has Its Own Thoughts
“I changed mine too. no difference in portions but the delivery people leave me tf alone with my contactless delivery AS THEY SHOULD.” And then there’s the bigger takeaway that kept popping up in the comments: “I hate that we have to do this.”
Because that’s really what makes this story stand out, it’s not just about a clever workaround; it’s about what that workaround suggests. The idea that something as simple as a name could influence behavior, even in small, everyday interactions like dropping off food.
Some viewers even suggested taking it further, with one person writing, “I wish someone would make a documentary about this. Where they test out and film the differences and experiences. Would be so interesting to watch.”
The Arizona woman’s “hack” solved her problem. However, it also opened the door to a bigger conversation, one that people clearly aren’t done having yet. In the meantime, though, she’s getting exactly what she wanted all along: A truly contactless delivery.
