Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have officially moved back to the UK after spending the past six years living in Montecito, California. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex stunned many royal watchers when they announced their move back across the pond over the summer. However, the move allegedly comes with conditions for Harry.
Sources claim that Meghan Markle is worried that her husband may fall back into some bad habits and old patterns when it comes to partying with his British friends. Prince Harry was once known as quite the party boy before his marriage to Markle. However, since leaving the Royal Family and welcoming his two children, Archie and Lilibet, he seems to be more about dad life.
Prince Harry Trades California for a UK Reunion
Still, that isn’t stopping Meghan from putting her foot down and setting some clear boundaries for Harry, per Heat World. “He was very lonely in Montecito as far as friends go, so having time with his friends is one of the biggest plus points for him about coming home,” a source tells the outlet.
“But for Meghan, it’s a real tinderbox; she can’t help but worry that it will get him into a bad situation somehow,” the source continues. “The last thing she wants is pictures of Harry out drinking and looking footloose around London; the optics are just terrible. They’re trying to project an image of themselves as serious businesspeople and philanthropists, and she knows how quickly a harmless night out could be turned against them.”
Meghan Markle’s Concerns About Harry’s Old Habits
Meghan’s alleged concerns aren’t without basis in Harry’s own history. In his 2023 memoir “Spare,” Harry candidly recounted his infamous 2012 trip to Las Vegas, per NZ Herald, where he was photographed naked during a game of strip billiards after a night of heavy drinking that started with Bloody Marys in the pool.
He wrote that he became so drunk he tried to get a tattoo before his friends physically intervened to stop him, and that the fallout left him feeling deep shame in front of his family, via PEOPLE. Harry has been candid about leaving that version of himself behind since becoming a husband and father, but the Las Vegas incident remains one of the most-referenced examples of his old “party prince” reputation. The same reputation Meghan reportedly hopes he won’t slip back into now that he’s surrounded by the friends who were there for it.
For now, it looks like Prince Harry’s reunion with his old pals will come with a few new house rules thanks to Meghan Markle and the big decision to leave California.
