The Clippers took a massive swing a few years back by bringing in Kawhi Leonard and Paul George. Yet, that ended up being a huge swing and a miss, with that core never really reaching its potential. Now, with Leonard’s exit from LA, the Clippers allegedly have a little ill will towards the NBA superstar.
The sports world was shocked to hear about the drama coming out of California regarding Kawhi Leonard’s contract with the Los Angeles Clippers. That kind of scandal does not come around every day, so it was pretty massive news. However, it has also caused many other smaller issues within the Clippers organization and the NBA in general. It also caused LA to move on from Leonard, sending him in a trade package back to the Toronto Raptors, where he won his most recent championship back in 2019.
Kawhi Lenard’s California Exit Seemingly Made Him Some New Enemies
Nevertheless, the NBA always has a little drama, and the Clippers allegedly feel some “Resentment” towards Kawhi Leonard, following his lackluster punishment from the NBA. The league brought the hammer down on LA, even stripping them of first-round picks for years to come. Yet, they also let Leonard off with just a fine. Despite the fine being worth around $700K, this still seems like a very light punishment from the NBA’s higher-ups.
Social media users on X also had to chime in regarding this, as many users would hurry to leave behind their own thoughts and opinions. “The Clips should be mad. There is no union with leverage for owners like the players,” wrote one. Another said, “You know how rich you have to be to be fined $700K and people think it’s not enough?” A different commenter then pointed out, “No championship out of all of this is wild.” Finally, one last person’s comment also read, “Settling with Kawhi was strategic to stop the arbitration option.”
The Los Angeles Clippers and many California NBA fans are seemingly not too happy about this whole ordeal. Yet, now that it is all said and done, at least people can begin to move on, and the Clippers can start their long and hard road to another rebuild. At the end of the day, this is arguably one of the biggest scandals in NBA history, and hopefully, they can get to the bottom of it all.
