For decades, Steven Tyler has been one of rock music’s most recognizable faces, known for leading Aerosmith through sold-out tours, chart-topping hits, and a larger-than-life persona. But now, the legendary singer’s name is being pulled into headlines for a very different reason. In California, a legal fight tied to allegations dating back more than half a century is picking up steam.

This is putting renewed focus on claims that have lingered in public conversation for years, according to the National Enquirer. While details surrounding the case are complicated, a judge’s recent decision means the courtroom drama is far from over.

The legal dispute centers around accusations brought by Julia Misley, who claims she had a relationship with Tyler during the 1970s when she was still a teenager. According to court filings, Misley alleges the Aerosmith singer, who was in his mid-20s at the time, groomed her and engaged in an inappropriate relationship while she was a minor.

Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler Faces California Court Battle Over Decades-Old Allegations

The case has moved forward under a California law that temporarily opened a legal pathway for survivors of past sexual abuse allegations to file civil lawsuits, even when decades have passed. A judge has now ruled that at least part of the lawsuit can proceed to trial, which is reportedly expected to take place later this year.

Misley’s lawsuit paints a troubling picture of her time with the rock star, claiming Tyler convinced her family to allow him legal guardianship. This was so she could travel with him while Aerosmith toured. The filing argues that the arrangement gave Tyler the ability to take her across state lines during the height of the band’s rise to fame.

The former American Idol judge is accused of grooming and impregnating his “almost teen bride” more than 50 years ago. When he was 25, and she was just 16.

The lawsuit also references passages from Tyler’s 2011 memoir, Does the Noise in My Head Bother You?, in which the singer discussed a teenage girl he referred to as “Diana.” Attorneys for Misley argue portions of the memoir support her claims. They are pointing to descriptions of the relationship that have drawn scrutiny over the years.

Claims at the Center of the Lawsuit

Not every part of the lawsuit survived legal review. A judge reportedly dismissed several claims connected to Massachusetts, where much of the relationship allegedly unfolded, citing legal deadlines tied to the state’s statute of limitations.

Still, California’s legal framework allowed one portion of the case to remain active. Tyler and Misley allegedly traveled through the state during Aerosmith’s touring years. This means that a limited part of the lawsuit tied to incidents in California will now move ahead in court.

Tyler’s attorney, David Long-Daniels, described the ruling as a favorable outcome for the singer. He argues that the majority of allegations were dismissed and only a narrow portion remains. Tyler has consistently denied wrongdoing and previously sought to have the lawsuit dismissed in full.

Rocker Denies Allegations

Court records indicate his legal team has challenged the accusations while disputing the broader claims made against him. Meanwhile, Misley’s attorney, Jeff Anderson, has pushed for the matter to be heard by a jury, saying the case deserves its day in court.

As Steven Tyler prepares for the next phase of a legal battle tied to allegations from more than 50 years ago. Because of this, the case is once again drawing attention to how courts handle historical abuse claims. For now, one thing is clear. Despite years of legal challenges and disputes over jurisdiction, part of the lawsuit will move forward in California. This is where a jury could ultimately weigh the competing claims and determine what happens next.
