The 2025 NBA playoffs have been an unexpected rollercoaster so far. After an insane conference semifinals, the Boston Celtics find themselves down three games to one against the New York Knicks. However, as if that wasn’t bad enough, towards the end of the game, superstar forward Jayson Tatum went down with a non-contact injury. Tatum was then carried off the court as he could not put any weight on his foot. This is a huge loss for Boston and a sad moment for the entire NBA.

Despite the horrible incident that left Tatum unable to walk off the court under his own power, this game was fantastic. It was a classic Eastern Conference battle between Tatum and Jalen Brunson. Tatum would leave the game after putting up 42 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 steals. On the other hand, Brunson would drop 39 points, 5 rebounds, and 12 assists. After stealing both games in Boston, the Knicks are sitting pretty and are only one win away from the conference finals. However, the dark cloud left by Tatum’s injury looms large over both teams. Celtics big man Al Horford had a message regarding his hurt teammate after the game. Al said, “I’m concerned about Jayson,” according to The Guardian

The Celtics React to Jayson Tatum’s Gruesome Injury

“I mean, at this point, I’m concerned about Jayson,” Celtics center Al Horford said. “That’s the most important to me … The game stuff, we’ll address it. But I’m just hoping that he’s OK.”

Jayson Tatum has been so important to the Boston Celtics as well as the entire NBA for years now. The 27-year-old has accomplished quite a few things in his time in the league. Most recently, it was his first NBA championship. Although the Finals MVP award would go to his teammate, Jaylen Brown. However, despite the Knicks being up 3-1 and the Celtics losing Tatum, New Yok might have to close this out in game five. The Celtics, even without Tatum, are a stacked team. Brown alone can carry the load if needed.

Nobody wants to see a young talent like Tatum lose what could be an entire season of their prime. However, with Jayson being pretty young still and as talented as he is, it is very possible the star could make a full return to form. It will be very interesting to see how the rest of the series, as well as the other games, will play out. The NBA is a crazy league, and almost anything can happen in the blink of an eye.
