During an interview with Jimmy Fallon, Olivia Rodrigo shared an embarrassing story about a time when she was stalking her ex-boyfriend on Instagram. Although she didn’t mention Joshua Bassett’s name, fans seemed to believe she was speaking about her famous former beau.
“I try to follow zero people because it helps me be off of my phone, you know, off of social media,” she explained. “I had this very embarrassing encounter once where I was stalking my ex — as one does, sue me, sorry — and I accidentally followed him because I was stalking him,” Rodrigo added.
The “Vampire” singer went on to reveal how embarrassed she was to accidentally click the follow button and open herself up to speculation. To make matters worse, her phone battery died shortly after, making it more difficult for her to unfollow her ex.
“I was just following one person so it was super obvious that I was following him, and my friend ran into my room like, ‘Oh my God, did you mean to follow him?! Unfollow him!’ And I went and grabbed my phone like, ‘S—, oh my God!'” she stated.

Meanwhile, Olivia Rodrigo definitely learned her lesson from the situation. She revealed that she now uses a fake Instagram account to do all of her ex-boyfriend stalking so that she doesn’t run into the same embarrassment.
When the incident happened, fans immediately noticed. Of course, they didn’t hesitate to speculate about the social media blunder online (via OK!). Some even thought that she had been hacked, a theory that Rodrigo admitted to playing into to avoid further embarrassment.
