That’s exactly what happened when one Nevada mother found herself at the center of an unexpected family dispute after watching a video involving her 2-year-old son and a relative she says has made a habit of pretending not to like children.
Sarah, who shares content online as @sawahpee, recently opened up about a situation that left her feeling protective, frustrated, and ultimately unwilling to stay quiet any longer. According to the Nevada mother, the drama began when her sister-in-law shared a video in the family’s group chat.
On the surface, it appeared to be a simple clip of her toddler playing in a sandbox. But what happened next didn’t sit right with Sarah. In the footage, Sarah’s young son hands a shovel to his uncle. Instead of simply taking the toy or playing along, the man grabs it and throws it across the yard.

Sarah explained that her brother-in-law has a long-running joke where he acts annoyed by or dismissive of children, including her son. While some relatives apparently find the act amusing, she has never been particularly fond of it. And this time, she decided to say something.
Before Sarah even responded, her husband reportedly stepped in and defended their son. He addressed the family group chat directly, writing, “We could be nicer to a child. He’s only 2 years old. There’s no need to be a bully.” That message quickly shifted the tone of the conversation.
Rather than apologizing, Sarah says the brother-in-law attempted to justify his actions by claiming the toddler had thrown sand at him first and that he was simply responding. Not surprisingly, that explanation didn’t exactly win over the child’s parents. Sarah eventually sent her own message, trying to be honest without escalating the situation.
“I know you’re joking, but I don’t love the running joke of rejecting or being mean to my kid.” She also explained that she didn’t want that kind of behavior becoming normalized around her son as he grows older. According to Sarah, the conversation went quiet after that.
