For one Louisiana woman, a casual stop at DSW reportedly turned into a full-blown public humiliation that ended with police involvement over a pair of sneakers she says she already owned. TikTok user Tylisha, known online as @heenvytya_, shared her bizarre experience in a series of videos that immediately got people online talking.
According to her, she was shopping at a DSW inside the Mall of Louisiana when things suddenly took a strange turn. An employee allegedly approached her and asked whether she “wanted a box for those.” The problem? Tylisha wasn’t carrying any shoes at all. That’s when she realized the employee was referring to the Puma sneakers already on her feet.
Tylisha explained that she had entered the store wearing the shoes and had not changed footwear at any point while shopping. But instead of the misunderstanding being cleared up quickly, she noticed employees allegedly whispering about her and making calls behind the scenes. At that point, she suspected the situation was escalating far beyond an awkward mix-up.
Louisiana Woman Accused Of Stealing Her Own Shoes
Things only became more intense after she left the store and walked into a nearby Ulta Beauty. According to Tylisha, a police officer entered shortly after and appeared to be searching for her near the entrance. Eventually, she returned to DSW, where the confrontation continued on camera.
In the footage, the employee can be heard insisting that Tylisha entered the store wearing different shoes and accused her of stealing the Puma sneakers. Tylisha repeatedly defended herself, telling both the employee and responding officer, “I did not come in with sandals; I came in with these on.” She also explained that she had originally purchased the shoes at a Nordstrom in Minnesota.
Honestly, the entire situation sounds exhausting. Being falsely accused of theft is embarrassing enough privately, but having it happen publicly inside a crowded mall while police are involved is a completely different level of humiliation. Social media users seemed to agree, with many calling the situation reckless and criticizing how quickly the accusation escalated.
The incident also sparked a larger conversation online about how easily shoppers can end up in uncomfortable confrontations over misunderstandings. Plenty of viewers questioned why employees didn’t verify the Louisiana situation more carefully before allegedly involving law enforcement. Others pointed out how emotionally draining it can be for someone to feel publicly singled out while simply trying to shop.
She Was ‘Publicly Humiliated’
In the end, Tylisha said she was allowed to leave without charges or further issues, but the emotional impact stuck with her. She later shared that she filed complaints with both DSW and the Mall of Louisiana regarding how the situation was handled. According to her, the only compensation she was offered was a $200 gift card.
For Tylisha, that wasn’t nearly enough. She said the experience left her feeling “falsely accused of theft and publicly humiliated.” Of course, TikTok had thoughts. “If you haven’t already, please try to talk to a lawyer. Make people who treat you badly pay!” one person commented online. “Get a lawyer,” another agreed.
Unfortunately, this situation stuck with the Louisiana woman, who was just out for a routine day of shopping.
