A Louisville, Kentucky man recently accidentally stumbled across one of the state’s biggest and creepiest historical sites. On this site stands a very large and unique-looking tree. But this is not your ordinary everyday tree. This one comes with a spooky backstory.
The large tree is located in an older part of the city and stands in front of a brick home on the corner of the city, located on the corner of Sixth Street and Park Avenue. Given the name The Witches Tree, the impressively tall tree also carries a spooky history, one that most Louisville residents are aware of.
The Kentucky Witches Tree Gives Local Man Bad Vibes
The viral TikTok clip shows the creator approaching the tree, while claiming he stumbled across it and feels like the only person in Louisville who hasn’t seen this tree until now. The ominous-looking tree is surrounded from top to bottom with offerings left by past visitors. These include beads, witchy-looking brooms, ribbons, and personal objects left behind by many past visitors.
The man known as Wassup-Jewell is heard questioning the tree’s history, implying that the items left behind seem a little unsettling. He also says he doesn’t think he would add anything personal to the tree. He says he has never gone looking for this tree, but now that he has found it, he wants to know everything about it.
“I believe it’s demonic, pure evil,” one follower notes.
“Sometimes, it’s better not to ask questions. Just leave a few coins as offerings and carry on,” another resident warns.

The History Behind The Witches Tree
The Witches Tree Facebook page shares the history, superstitions, and spooky facts behind the famous tree. According to the page, the local lore surrounding the tree began around the late 19th century. The legend claims that a local coven of witches originally used the tree as a sacred place to hold meetings and ceremonies.
The coven was said to have never caused any issues or nuisances with the locals. That is, until the city planning committee decided to cut down the tree as part of their annual May Day celebrations. According to the lore, the witches became very angry about the news and cast a curse against the city.
11 months to the day the tree was cut down, Louisville, Kentucky, suffered a massive storm, one so severe that it wreaked havoc in the city. Following the aftermath, the residents began talking and speaking of the coven’s curse and believed that the city was struck by their wrath.
The massive tornado destroyed much of the city. However, the strangest part was that during the storm, a bolt of lightning struck the stump of the original tree, and the tree that now stands is the result of the witches’ curse. Believing the curse to be true, residents began bringing offerings and gifts to the tree in hopes of keeping the curse from returning.
