Hailey Bieber is breaking her silence about a troubling medical condition she has been dealing with ever since the birth of her and husband pop singer Justin Bieber’s son, Jack Blues Bieber in 2024. At 29, the model and skincare entrepreneur is sharing details about a diagnosis that left her feeling isolated and alone.

During a recent interview with Women’s Wear Daily, Hailey Bieber admits that since Jack’s birth, she has been dealing with a condition known as PMDD, also known as premenstrual dysphoric disorder. So what is PMDD? The Cleveland Clinic writes that PMDD is a more serious form of PMS (premenstrual syndrome.)
For women struggling with PMDD, the symptoms can be a bit more severe. Not only do they have all the symptoms from PMS, but it can cause more severe monthly symptoms, including extreme irritability, anxiety and depression, and in some cases, suicidal thoughts.
Hailey Bieber Speaks Out On PMDD
“After I had my son, I struggled with [PMDD] a bit, and there’s just not a lot of conversation or research around it,” Hailey said during the interview. Hailey reveals that following her diagnosis, she felt isolated and lonely. “Conversation, for me personally, makes me feel less alone,’ she told the outlet, adding, “When we can identify with each other and have conversations relating to each other and [talk] about the things we’re dealing with and struggling with, I do think it makes it feel like less of a lonely journey.”
Hailey also claims that she is making it a priority to platform women’s health issues. She adds that she has found that women’s health issues are an under-studied issue. After she began speaking with her family and friends, she has learned that many of her loved ones have or are currently struggling with similar female issues.
Making A Difference Following PMDD
Hailey Bieber has also unveiled plans to donate $5 million to the Foundation for Women’s Health over the next three years. The founder and executive director of the Foundation For Women’s Health, Katy Brodsky Falco, said of the collaborative effort: “This $5 million gift to Foundation for Women’s Health messages very strongly to young women, who are the next generation of leaders, mothers, athletes, change makers, that the long-standing gender equity gap is not acceptable,” Falco adds.
She noted: “The visibility that Rhode brings is perhaps unparalleled.”
Not Hailey’s First Serious Health Issue
Hailey states that these days she is more in tune to her health, and with good reason. In 2022, before becoming a mother, she suffered from a frightening a mini stroke; which led to a heart surgery procedure at the young age of 25. Per the Daily Mail, Bieber’s mini stroke was caused by a small blood clot that traveled from her heart to her brain through a congenital heart defect.
“I think that situation made me a little bit extra hyper aware of my body, a little bit more nervous about things and staying on top of them,” she revealed following the surgery. “There’s a lot of change happening all at once. It really showed me as a woman, as a businesswoman, as an entrepreneur, as a mom, as a wife, as a friend – really what my capacity was.”
Looking To The Future
It’s been a few years since Hailey Bieber’s stroke, however, the 29-year-old wife and mother shares that the medical emergency opened her awareness. These days she not only pays extra close attention to her health, but keeps busy as a wife, mother, entrepreneur, beauty executive and cultural influencer.
She and husband Justin Bieber also according to Hola Magazine are looking into their future as a family and definetly plan to add to their brood in the upcoming future. She reveals she would like nothing more than to give Jack Blues a baby brother or sister at some point. But for now they are taking things one day at a time. Thankfully, Hailey is staying on top of her health, and time will tell just how many Baby Biebers are in Justin and Hailey’s future.
