The 2026-27 NBA season is in full swing, and there have already been so many interesting storylines to follow for such a young season. However, this most recent one may be worth taking another look at. Late in the third quarter of what would turn into a Lakers win against the Sacramento Kings, Luka Doncic would get into a heated altercation with a fan sitting courtside. It would allegedly stem from the fan tossing the ball at the referee too hard, but it led to the California NBA fan being removed from his seat and the arena.
The video posted on X by the account @JomboyMedia shows the altercation as the California man picks up the ball following an out-of-bounds call. The official call was Lakers ball, and when Luka Doncic called for the ref to pass him the ball, he decided to throw it to the referee instead. However, the ref wasn’t paying close enough attention, and when the man threw a chest pass to her, she had to knock it down with her hand.
This caused Luka Doncic to get very angry for some reason, though. At this point, he would begin yelling at the California NBA fan, as he can even be seen asking him, “What is wrong with you?” Suddenly, security was on top of the fan, and he was being pulled out of his court-side seat and escorted out of the arena. All of this because the man passed the ball to the ref.

The comment section on X was seemingly on the fan’s side for this one, as many users would rush to leave behind their own thoughts and opinions regarding the situation. “Fire that ref, and give this man a refund. “This is disgraceful,” wrote one. “The league hasn’t seen a proper chess pass in so long that they don’t know what to do with it,” claimed another. Finally, one last person’s comment also read, “That was the softest thing I have ever seen.”
It would appear that a lot of NBA fans are taking the side of the California man, and who can really blame them? All the man did was throw the ball to the referee; it is not his fault she was not paying attention. However, at the end of the day, Luka Doncic’s reaction is most likely what sold the whole ordeal. Hopefully, this man is able to get something figured out, though, because this was just unfortunate.
