Fans of MTV’s 16 and Pregnant might remember Whitney Purvis from Season 1 — a Georgia teen mom whose journey into motherhood was filled with ups, downs, and reality TV cameras. But now, Whitney is making headlines for a heartbreaking reason: she claims she was locked out of her own teenage son’s funeral.
Whitney Purvis’ 16-year-old son, Weston Gosa Jr., tragically passed away earlier this month, and while the circumstances of his death were reportedly due to natural causes, the emotional fallout surrounding his funeral has stirred up major drama between Whitney and her ex, Weston Gosa Sr. Especially after Whitney allegedly showed up late to the Georgia funeral home where the service was being held.
According to sources close to Whitney, she was completely devastated after being denied entry to her son’s service. The source says Whitney was told by Weston Sr. that the service would begin at 4 PM. But when she showed up shortly after that, she was reportedly informed that not only had the service already started at 2 PM, but she wasn’t even on the guest list. To make matters worse, she and her family were asked to leave the property entirely.
Georgia 16 and Pregnant Star Whitney Purvis Missed Her Teenage Son’s Funeral
That’s already a lot to take in, but Weston Sr. has a totally different version of events. Speaking to TMZ, he claims Whitney knew the plan, which included a viewing from 2 PM to 4 PM, with the service kicking off right at 4. He insists he personally invited her a full week in advance and made it clear that due to the emotionally charged nature of the day, there would be a strict guest list and tightly monitored entry.
Weston Sr. says Purvis didn’t show up until after 4:15 PM, at which point the chapel doors were already locked and the service had started. He says the funeral director made the call to turn her away, not him. And as if this story didn’t have enough plot twists, he also claims that Whitney’s own mother, aunt, and uncle did attend and arrived around 3 PM without issue.
After being denied access, things reportedly got heated. Gosa says Whitney began texting him at 5:10 PM, accusing him of being “evil” for keeping her out. When she claimed she wasn’t on the guest list, he says he sent her a photo showing her name was listed.
Despite all this tension, Gosa and his current wife Amy still tried to extend an olive branch. They arranged for Whitney to receive a separate urn with some of Weston Jr.’s ashes. Whether or not that gesture will help ease the pain remains to be seen.
Weston Gosa Jr. Reportedly Died of Natural Causes
Whitney and Weston’s story has been in the public eye since 16 & Pregnant aired its very first season, showing two teenagers trying to navigate parenthood under pressure. Over the years, they’ve both lived relatively private lives, but this recent tragedy — and the chaos that came with it — has thrown them back into the spotlight in a truly tragic way.
No matter which side of the story is true, Whitney Purvis is a grieving mother who missed her son’s funeral, and that’s a pain no one should ever have to feel. Let’s hope the Georgia family can find some peace after such a heartbreaking and public loss.
