A heartbreaking and bizarre situation is unfolding online, and social media is already weighing in on what sounds like a potential elder kidnapping involving a Florida woman with stage 4 ovarian cancer. According to an online post, one woman’s final months have taken a dark turn after her adult son allegedly removed her from her home against her will, and now her daughter is desperately trying to bring her back.

The Reddit user laid out a distressing and emotional story in a post titled, “My Dying Mom Got Kidnapped.” The user says her mom is battling terminal cancer and has slight dementia. Despite that, she has been vocal about not wanting to leave her home or relocate to Florida. But allegedly, her son, the woman’s other child and primary power of attorney, had other plans.

“He wanted me to go with and lie to her that it’s just a vacation and have me come back home shortly after,” the daughter claimed, adding, “This didn’t happen because I didn’t agree.” The mother reportedly said she did not want to move to Florida, especially without her daughter.

Things took a turn on May 15, when the Reddit user got a call that her mother was already en route to Florida.

“I of course panicked,” she wrote. “She said she was going to Florida for a week or two and she’d be back. They just wanted to take her to the doctor over there and see if she can get treatment.”

At first, the daughter was told she could fly down to visit her mom, a plan that quickly evaporated. “On the 17th they told me that I can’t because the Airbnb they rented for my mom charges an extra $2000 per person,” she wrote, only to find out later that a friend of her mother’s was allowed to go. And then — radio silence.

Florida Mother Allegedly Taken Against Her Will As Brother and Sister Fight Over Her

For days, the mother didn’t contact her daughter, fueling suspicions that something wasn’t right. When she finally did leave voicemails, they were heartbreaking. “She said it’s nice here but she misses me,” the daughter wrote. “She leaves another voicemail saying she wants to go home and that she’s miserable.”

Eventually, the daughter spoke to her on the phone, but things seemed off. “Her demeanor changed because she was with my brother and his wife,” she explained. “So she just talks about her day.”

In a later phone call, however, the elderly mother dropped a bombshell: “She tells me she wants to come home but my brother isn’t letting her.” The Reddit user says her mother has no car, and there are discussions about revoking her license. “She sounded distressed and miserable,” the daughter wrote, adding, “I just want her to feel safe and be happy.”

Despite being listed on the power of attorney paperwork, the daughter says she’s unsure of her legal rights and doesn’t have the money for a lawyer. “I know legally I can’t just drive there and pick her up,” she wrote. “I don’t want to go in circles either.”

“I am sorry you are going through this, it must be extremely upsetting and traumatic,” one person commented.

“If she is still able to make her own decisions there isn’t anything illegal about you fetching her and bringing her back to her home,” another claimed.

The situation highlights a scary and often overlooked reality: when elderly parents have multiple children with different agendas, control over their care can quickly become a battleground. In this case, it’s especially troubling because of the Florida mother’s clear wishes to stay in her home, and the possibility that those wishes are being ignored.
