‘Crazy’ Tennessee Woman Makes Jaw-Dropping Request While Having Medical Emergency: ‘It’s Unbelievable’

A woman from Tennessee is a die-hard soccer fan, and she proved it with her actions during a medical emergency. Nashville resident Leigh Clark wasn’t thinking about the bright lights she might be seeing on the other side, she was worried about the bright yellow letters on the back of her beloved Nashville SC jersey.

It all went down at Geodis Park in Music City, where Leigh and her husband Randy were celebrating their wedding anniversary. It was their third time cheering on their favorite MLS team, and Leigh was decked out in the ultimate game-day armor: a Tennessee “shersey” repping her favorite player, Jacob Shaffelburg. This wasn’t just a random shirt from the merch stand, it was a birthday gift from Randy, and Leigh loved it almost as much as the team itself, per News Channel 5.

The couple had barely settled in to watch Nashville SC take on the New York Red Bulls when Leigh started feeling… off. And not the “I ate too many stadium nachos” kind of off. She told Randy they needed to leave, but before they could make it far, she began to feel dizzy in the concourse. That’s when Neil Worf from the Vanderbilt LifeFlight Event Medicine team spotted her and realized something was very wrong.

Tennessee Woman Refuses To Have Jersey Cut Off Amid Heart Attack

Within moments, the Tennessee soccer fan was in the care of Geodis Park’s medical team, loaded into an ambulance, and on her way to Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Doctors quickly discovered she was having a heart attack caused by a blocked artery and rushed her toward the cath lab for an emergency stent procedure.

And here’s where the story takes its hilarious and kind of iconic twist. Medical staff began prepping her for surgery, which included cutting off her Shaffelburg jersey to get to her chest quickly. But Leigh, who was actively in cardiac distress, still managed to speak up: “Oh please no.”

Instead of going at it with scissors, the medical team carefully maneuvered the prized piece of soccer merch over her head without damaging it. And yes, her heart was saved too. Double win.

“The whole ‘she didn’t want to rip my shirt’ was crazy. I’ve never heard something like that before. I made sure to tell her that if that ever happens again, we’ll get her a new shirt. It’s unbelievable — very cool,” Shaffelburg stated.

Leigh has since made a full recovery, proving she’s as tough as the Nashville SC defense line on a good day. She even returned to another match, where she met the very player whose name she had fought to protect on her back. Shaffelburg himself was floored by the dedication, saying he’d never heard of something like that before and promising her a new shirt if she’s ever in that situation again.

Looking back, Leigh knows things could have ended very differently if she hadn’t been in such a public place surrounded by medical pros. “I feel very lucky,” she’s said, noting that if she’d been home alone, the outcome might not have been so good.

Now, the Tennessee woman has the ultimate “I survived” story and the jersey to prove it. Honestly, in a world where so many sports fans claim they’d do anything for their team, Leigh Clark has officially raised the bar. She didn’t just keep her heart in the game. She kept her game-day look, too.
