A California teacher has the internet fuming after giving their 5th grade students a entire homework packet about political commentator Charlie Kirk just weeks after his death. One parent took to social media to share their shock over the homework packet, and many people and parents were furious over the situation.
A dad in California filmed a video showing the assignment, which was titled “The Life of Charlie Kirk.” The packet even featured a drawing of the conservative activist on the cover. “Where did this come from?” the father can be heard asking his son in disbelief. The boy reportedly said his teacher seemed sad while passing it out, which only made the entire situation even more confusing.
California Teacher Shocks With Charlie Kirk Homework Packet
Now, it’s worth noting that most people wouldn’t expect to see Charlie Kirk’s name pop up in a 5th-grade homework packet, especially in a public school setting in California. Parents online were quick to point out that there’s no clear academic reason why kids this age should be learning about the life and “legacy” of a political figure known for running Turning Point USA, a conservative organization focused on college campuses and political advocacy.
The packet reportedly included true or false questions such as: “He founded Turning Point USA when he was 20 years old,” and “He was a committed Christian, and his faith guided his life.” One question even read, “He passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family.” Of course, Charlie Kirk was shockingly assassinated in Utah during a public engagement, sparking a huge political debate about his previous comments, stances, and work.
To make things worse, there was also a section asking students to summarize “the life and legacy of Charlie Kirk” and another comprehension question about how his “life tragically ended.” Understandably, many parents and the internet were floored. Why were elementary schoolers being asked to reflect on the death of a man so politically divisive?
The Internet Is Fuming
“How is THIS not pushing an agenda?” one person asked in the comment section. “No. Just no. Go to the school board,” suggested another. “This is so disturbing,” a third person stated. “The propaganda is INSANE,” a fourth comment read.
So far, the California school hasn’t released an official statement about the odd assignment or the teacher’s reasoning behind it. Still, it’s hard to imagine this won’t result in some serious conversations at the district level. If anything, this viral situation highlights just how quickly something as simple as a homework packet can ignite outrage in the digital age.
