In Virginia, one woman says a routine day of yard work turned into something deeply unsettling. Something she never expected to uncover, even after years of grieving the loss of someone she loved dearly. For six years, she has carried the pain of losing her best friend and neighbor in a tragedy that devastated her community.
But while cleaning around her home, she stumbled onto something that immediately made her stomach drop. At first, it looked like nothing more than an old, forgotten object. But the longer she looked at it, the more uneasy she became.
According to the Virginia woman’s TikTok, she discovered a weather-worn cell phone underneath her front porch while pulling vines around the property. Initially, she assumed it may have belonged to a neighbor. But after asking around in a neighborhood group chat and receiving no responses from anyone claiming it, her instincts reportedly began telling her something wasn’t right.
Chilling Discovery Leaves a Virginia Woman Shaken
She brought the phone inside, cleaned it up, and attempted to charge it. Despite it having reportedly sat outside through rain, snow, heat, and storms for nearly two years. Shockingly, it powered on. And when the screen lit up, she says she immediately recognized the photo displayed on it.
It belonged to the man responsible for murdering her best friend. The woman later connected the phone to the 2020 killing of Christina Cunningham, a 26-year-old U.S. Army veteran who was stabbed to death in Virginia.
According to reports at the time, authorities charged Cunningham’s boyfriend, Maury Williams, with her murder after the fatal attack near South Vine and West Cary streets. The Virginia woman says the phone she found was also allegedly used during the terrifying 911 call in which her friend reportedly begged for her life. That realization made the discovery even more disturbing.
Cell Phone Reopens Old Wounds
After seeing the image on the screen, she says she immediately contacted the detective connected to the case. However, because the case had already been closed, she claims authorities informed her the phone was no longer needed as evidence.
According to her, she was told she could either bring the phone in or keep it herself. She also explained that because the accused had reportedly pleaded insanity, she believes there is little chance the case could ever be reopened under its current circumstances.
“I’m so sorry for your loss. I hope you find comfort and love. This is a traumatic find,” one follower writes.
“Avenge your friend, girl!” another adds.
Still, she couldn’t shake the feeling that the device might contain unanswered questions. Or possibly information nobody ever saw. So she held onto it. The Virginia woman says part of the reason she shared her experience publicly was to make sure her friend’s story isn’t forgotten.
She reportedly hopes someone may eventually be able to unlock the phone and possibly uncover information that was missed. At the same time, she says she wants people to remain aware of the man she believes destroyed her friend’s life.
Hoping to Keep Her Friend’s Story Alive
For her, this isn’t just about evidence anymore. It’s about memory, grief, and a lingering feeling that justice never fully arrived. What makes the story so haunting is not only the discovery itself, but where it was found. Hidden beneath the very porch of someone who had spent years mourning the tragedy.
In Virginia, the unsettling find has left many online stunned by the strange timing and emotional weight surrounding it all. For this woman, one ordinary afternoon unexpectedly reopened painful memories tied to a heartbreaking loss that never fully healed.
Whether the phone contains anything significant may never be known. But for someone still carrying the grief of losing a best friend, finding that device felt impossible to ignore. And sometimes, even years later, certain discoveries have a way of bringing the past back to the surface. Whether we’re ready for it or not.
