Something unsettling has shaken parts of Iowa, and it’s making people think twice about one of the most basic human activities: using a public bathroom. Details are slowly emerging about a bizarre and disturbing crime that left law enforcement and the community reeling.
Tyler Pavlick, 32, of Des Moines, was arrested after investigators determined he had allegedly planted hidden cameras in porta-potties at. One at a local fair and another at a golf course meet. According to authorities, the disturbing setup was used to secretly film both adults and children. As a result, Pavlick now faces a staggering 98 charges, including sexual exploitation of minors and invasion of privacy involving nudity.

Furthermore, investigators revealed that the first hidden camera was discovered on October 4 during the Harvest & Handmade Fair at Water Works Park, according to the Des Moines Police Facebook. Once the device was found, officials quickly realized it had captured images of individuals entering and using the portable restroom, immediately raising red flags and setting off a full-scale investigation.
Just a few days later, the situation escalated even further when another disturbing discovery came to light. During a large cross-country meet held at the Lincoln Valley Golf Course, participants and spectators were focused on the race when suddenly, a few alert athletes noticed something out of place. Upon closer inspection, they realized the suspicious device clearly didn’t belong there, prompting them to act quickly before handing it over to authorities.
Acting fast. They reported it and immediately turned it over to law enforcement. This allowed investigators to begin piecing together what appeared to be a growing pattern of invasive behavior.

Pavlick is currently being held at the Polk County Jail on a $100,000 cash bail. He is scheduled for arraignment on December 5, at which time he will have the opportunity to enter a plea. Law enforcement continues to urge anyone who may have been filmed to come forward and cooperate with the investigation.
