‘Try And Stop Them’: Michigan Woman’s Nightmarish Ordeal With Upstairs Neighbors

Living in Michigan comes with picturesque views. Friendly neighborhoods, and if you’re lucky, a calm apartment to call your own. At least, that’s what one young woman thought when she moved in. Peace, quiet, maybe the occasional relaxing evening after work. That was the plan. Reality, however, had a different agenda, and it made its presence known in a way she couldn’t have predicted.

It turns out, living directly under certain neighbors can feel like a never-ending audition for the Olympics. Running, stomping, furniture scraping, and doors slamming. All amplified through the ceiling above. It has turned her Michigan apartment into a daily assault on the senses. Sleep has become optional, relaxation is a distant memory, and pillow-over-head naps are now standard survival gear.

Finally pushed to her limits, she decides to confront the source of the constant racket. Armed with her phone for documentation, she heads upstairs. She’s met with apologies, of course, but the noise doesn’t magically disappear.

Michigan Woman Wages War with Upstairs Neighbors

Kids continue to scream, run, and jump like chaos itself is an Olympic sport. One parent shrugs, “We yell at them all the time.” She nods politely while internally wondering how much more of this she can take. Kids will be kids, but even in Michigan, a little consideration goes a long way.

THIS WAS SO STRESSFUL! I finally asked my neighbors to be quiet. #michigan #apartment #neighbors #loud #scared

If you find yourself living beneath what feels like a permanent percussion concert, start by documenting the disturbances. Videos, audio, or written notes. Speak to your neighbors calmly but firmly, explaining how the noise affects your daily life. If nothing changes, involve building management or your landlord. This isn’t about hating kids. It’s about establishing boundaries so you can actually live in your own home.

However, even after speaking up, the noise doesn’t vanish for the annoyed Michigan woman. Doors slam, little feet pound, and patience wears thin. Some commenters online suggest “just move.” Easier said than done. These days, apartments and homes are tough to come by, especially rentals. Not to mention, moving is very expensive, and not something most can afford to do.

“I would try and stop them at certain times of the day/night. But choosing to live in an apartment, you have to deal with these kinds of things, girl,” one follower reveals.

“Learn Your Lesson! Don’t rent a bottom unit!” suggests one more unhelpful commenter.

Stay Sane in the Apartment Jungle

However, living respectfully in an apartment shouldn’t mean giving up your sanity. Kids aren’t a free pass to disrupt everyone else’s life. Apartment life may look peaceful from the outside. However, it can come with hidden drama you may not be privy to with just a walk-through at the signing of the lease.

It can be loud, relentless, and exhausting. This tenant’s story is proof that sometimes you have to stand up and speak out. And yes, sometimes invest in the thickest pillow you can find if a compromise is not reached between all parties.
