What should’ve been a quick, low-key moment turned into a viral debate and now a Tennessee neighborhood is at the center of a conversation people can’t seem to agree on. A Nashville man is speaking out after a video of his workout being interrupted by concerned neighbors made its way across social media.
And depending on who you ask, this is either a case of someone being unfairly targeted or a situation that simply looked suspicious. The Tennessee man, who goes by @cgkuulz1 on TikTok, originally shared the footage showing him outside a home, getting in a workout. Nothing flashy, just a guy exercising. But then, someone from across the street decided to step in, per Atlanta Black Star.
“You alright, boss?” the man asked. At first, it sounded casual. But the tone shifted pretty quickly. “You live here?” he followed up. When @cgkuulz1 answered honestly, saying “No, ”that’s when things escalated. “You need to leave.”

And just like that, what started as a normal day turned into a full-blown interaction. The video then cuts to a woman approaching him, clearly concerned and ready to question what’s going on. She explained that the area was private property and suggested he shouldn’t be there.
From her perspective, she framed it as a safety issue. “I’m sorry, it’s just we have a lot of little kids playing around, and it’s scary… Are you waiting for somebody?” she asked. Meanwhile, @cgkuulz1 seemed caught off guard by the whole situation.
“This hasn’t happened to me before,” he said, which honestly sums up the vibe of the entire exchange. Later, he clarified what was actually going on behind the scenes, and it wasn’t nearly as suspicious as it may have looked. According to him, he and a friend were simply returning a ladder they had borrowed from someone who lived at the house.
The reason he was outside alone? Surprisingly relatable. He didn’t want to go inside without a shirt on. “I didn’t want to disrespect the lady by not seeing her for years and years and then walk into her house with no shirt on,” he explained.
So instead, he waited outside. Shirtless. Working out. With a ladder nearby. At one point, his friend came outside to back him up, but the conversation didn’t exactly calm down. In fact, the woman doubled down on her concerns.

“Have you ever, ever been questioned while some guy is… standing without a shirt on, curling a ladder outside someone’s house,” she asked. The moment quickly turned into a back-and-forth, with @cgkuulz1 even offering a sarcastic apology in an attempt to end things.
But what really stood out to him came after his friend stepped in. “Right after a friend walked out, she was like ‘oh you’re with him,’” he said. “What does it matter? You don’t know this guy either. The only difference between him and me is that he’s white.”
That observation added another layer to the situation, and it’s part of why the video has sparked such divided reactions online. Some people believe the woman’s concern was justified, pointing out that the situation looked unusual from the outside. Others feel the reaction was overblown and unnecessary.
One comment questioned his response entirely: “Why was he lying, saying he didn’t live there. He was wanting a weird interaction, so he got it.” Meanwhile, others defended him, pushing back on the idea that he needed to explain himself at all: “Man, listen, they run around the neighborhood jogging with no shirt on, he don’t have to tell her where he lives.”
