Police in Wisconsin expected a standard call when they arrived at a Milwaukee storage facility in the early hours of Tuesday morning. What they discovered instead was a chilling situation that has left the state stunned.
Behind the metal doors of one unit, six terrified children ranging from a 2-month-old infant to a 9-year-old. The children were locked inside the dark, stuffy unit. The other children were just 2, 3, 5, and 7 years old. Officers and fire crews had to force entry into the unit after receiving calls reporting children trapped inside, according to Mirror reports.
At first, dispatchers believed only two children were involved. But once crews pried open the storage unit, the full scope of the horror became clear. Thankfully, police reported no visible injuries, though the children’s health status has not been fully released. All six have since been placed in the custody of Wisconsin Child Protective Services.

Authorities confirmed that a 26-year-old woman and a 33-year-old man were taken into custody. Their identities are being withheld pending review by the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office. Police have not said whether the children were related to the adults or even to each other.
Neighbors in Milwaukee admitted they were left bewildered. One man told local media he couldn’t understand why anyone would keep kids in such a place, calling it a possible “cry for help.” But speculation has done little to calm fears as Wisconsin residents grapple with the disturbing reality of children being locked away in a storage unit.
“I’m confused. I don’t even know how to respond to it,” a man from the area told ABC News affiliate WISN. “Why would anyone keep six kids in a storage unit? To me, this sounds like a cry for help. Maybe they just needed help and didn’t know how to get it.”
