There’s unsettling, and then there’s New York unsettling the kind of moment that makes every apartment dweller in the state rethink their locks, their lease, and maybe even their life choices. One New York woman learned that the hard way when she came home from a quick store run and was immediately hit with a sight no renter ever wants to see: a mysterious package with her name on it inside her apartment.

The woman, named Kenna, walked into her New York City unit expecting the same quiet, uneventful vibe she left behind. Instead, she stepped straight into her own personal nightmare. Sitting just past the threshold was a delivered package that should have been outside. Kenna knew she had locked up before she left, which made one thing crystal clear someone had been inside while she was gone.

In true New York fashion, fear quickly blended with adrenaline. Unsure if the intruder was still lingering somewhere in her apartment, Kenna grabbed the nearest thing that doubled as protection: a kitchen knife. With shaking hands, she began recording herself as she checked every corner of her space.

New York Woman Freaks After Finding Mysterious Package Inside Her Locked Apartment

“What the [expletive]? I went to the [expletive] store, and I came back, and there was a package inside my apartment. And I locked my door and everything. How did the package get inside my apartment?” she says, breathless and confused, as the camera captures her walking deeper into her home.

Kenna explained that slipping the package under the door wasn’t possible, leaving only one terrifying explanation: someone unlocked her door and came in. The fear on her face is unmistakable as she peeks into her shower and calls out “Hello?” before admitting, “I’m scared. How did someone get into my apartment?”

It’s the kind of moment that would send any New York resident spiraling a locked apartment should be sacred. A safe zone. Not a revolving door.

The Internet Is Worried Was Worried

Thankfully, the story ended with relief rather than horror. In a follow-up, Kenna revealed that the mystery wasn’t a stalker, burglar, or intruder hiding behind her shower curtain. It was her maintenance man, who saw the package and decided to let himself in to drop it off. “[They] didn’t tell me so that’s not very cool,” she noted, understandably frustrated.

“I claim no negative energy,” one person commented. “Ok gurl, have you seen the movies?” another asked. “Stop recording and call the police,” a third comment read. “Normalize calling 911 first,” a fourth person said.

Let’s just say New York residents already deal with enough chaos without surprise home entries added to the list. The good news. Kenna is safe, sound, and no longer convinced she’s living inside a thriller movie. Still, this incident is a reminder for every New York resident that maintenance visits need boundaries, communication, and preferably zero jump scares.
