If you were holding out hope for a Prince William and Prince Harry reunion while King Charles is still alive, you might want to let that dream go. According to a recent report, things are that bad between the royal brothers, and there’s no sign of improvement anytime soon.
An insider revealed to Us Weekly, “The funeral of Charles would be the first time that courtiers would imagine [them reuniting].” That’s not exactly the warm family moment fans of Prince Harry and Prince William were hoping for.
The relationship between the Prince of Wales and the Duke of Sussex has allegedly gotten so bad that Harry may not even be in attendance to see William officially be crowned king. “I can’t imagine William would invite Harry to his coronation,” the source added.
King Charles, 76, has been battling an undisclosed type of cancer since early 2024. And while Prince Harry did return to the U.K. briefly after the diagnosis, his recent comments during a BBC interview seem to have made the already icy relationship with William even frostier.
“I don’t know how much longer my father has,” Harry said during the interview, referencing both his concern for the King and the emotional strain of being estranged from his family.
Prince Harry and Prince William May One See Each Other At King Charles’ Funeral
That statement didn’t sit well with his older brother. According to the same Us Weekly source, William was “absolutely appalled” by Harry’s comment and feels like his younger brother “stooped so low.”
Royal commentator Amanda Matta weighed in on the situation and didn’t sugarcoat how bad things have gotten. “Any reconciliation between the brothers would require so much more than just a single conversation,” she said. “It would demand a real reckoning with the emotional damage on both sides.”
She added that the “ball seems to be in William’s court,” and that any meaningful exchange “would likely happen privately.” But she also emphasized this isn’t your average family feud: “This complex and widening rift is about two very different worldviews. One is rooted in preserving tradition, the other in breaking from them when they start to cause harm.”
Honestly, that’s the heart of the issue. William, as the future king, has one job, and that’s to protect the institution. Harry, on the other hand, walked away from that very institution in 2020, taking Meghan Markle and their kids, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, with him. Since then, there’s been a steady stream of tell-alls, documentaries, lawsuits, and public statements, and almost none of it has painted the royals in a good light.
The Royal Family Feud Is So Sad
Harry recently lost his legal battle to get government-funded security while in the U.K., and in that same BBC interview, he revealed just how deep the rift goes. “My father won’t speak to me,” he said, even hinting that King Charles may have played a role in the decision to revoke his security.
Now, Harry says he doesn’t see a future where he could ever bring Meghan and the kids back to his home country. “I can’t see a world in which I would bring my wife and children back to the U.K. at this point,” he said. “I love my country, I always have done, despite what some people in that country have done.”
And just like that, the dream of a cozy royal reconciliation looks further away than ever. While the rest of the world clings to the idea of brothers making peace before it’s too late, it seems the reality is much more complicated. For now, the sad truth is this: it may take the death of their father to get Harry and William back in the same room, and even then, it’s anyone’s guess whether they’ll speak.
