A Missouri nurse and part-time foodie influencer named Sarah Maune turned a Florida beach vacation into something straight out of a Hallmark movie. That is, if Hallmark included near-panic snorkeling scenes and $10,000 worth of bling floating in the Atlantic. The woman took social media on a wild adventure after losing her wedding ring in the shark-infested ocean and attempted to find it. While it may seem like a needle-in-the-haystack type of situation, Sarah didn’t give up.
The 32-year-old nurse from Missouri was enjoying a sunny escape in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea when her worst beach nightmare came true. During a snorkeling trip to a nearby coral reef, Maune’s wedding ring slipped right off her finger and into the vast blue ocean. To make matters worse, she didn’t even realize it was gone until she returned to shore.
“I forgot it was on my finger from the morning when we went out to breakfast,” Maune revealed, per Newsweek. That innocent oversight led to one very expensive game of underwater hide-and-seek.
Here’s where it gets even more jaw-dropping. The ring wasn’t just any ring. It was bought by her high school sweetheart, who worked multiple jobs and as a farm hand to pay for it. “It’s worth around $10,000 but more sentimentally to me,” Maune explained. That kind of love story? Yeah, you don’t give up on that easily.
Missouri Nurse Tirelessly Searches For $10K Wedding Ring In The Ocean
Rather than spiraling into a beachside breakdown, Maune decided to take matters into her own hands. Armed with her GoPro and what had to be Olympic-level determination, she re-entered the ocean, hoping to reclaim her beloved ring from the reef.
“I was out snorkeling for multiple hours. I had my GoPro and just decided to film searching for it. I stayed calm and tried not to panic,” she said.
Although it may have been hard to stay calm with the sharks nearby. She mentioned spotting a black-tip reef shark the day before, and someone saw a hammerhead the same day she lost the ring. That’s a level of grace under pressure most of us can only aspire to.
She Actually Found The Ring
In a crazy plot twist, Sarah actually find the ring on the ocean floor.
“I had a general area I knew where I lost it. I could tell where I entered the water by where I put my stuff down on the beach and just tried to retrace my steps out to the coral reef,” she said. After hours in the water, multiple dives, and a second swim out to the buoy about 100 yards offshore, she noticed something shiny. “I picked up so many shells and I thought it was going to be another shell,” she recalled. But it wasn’t a shell—it was the ring.
Her video, posted on June 4, begins with her determinedly saying, “Going to find my missing wedding ring in the ocean,” and ends with the ultimate mic drop moment: “Oh my God. I found it, I can’t believe I found it.”
“Now that is dedication,” one person commented.
“I’m sorry I doubted you queen,” another joked.
“One in a MILLION chance! I for sure thought that thing was GONE,” said a third social media user.
“I think you need to buy a lottery ticket now,” suggested a fourth person.
The Missouri nurse didn’t give up and taught us all a valuable lesson in the process. Always take your jewelry off before going into the ocean, and never underestimate the power of a determined woman with a GoPro.
