Every parent has that one moment, the instant your heart stops, time slows down, and panic sets in. For Michigan mom Megan Kendrick, that moment came on a hot summer day when she stepped inside her house for just a second… and her baby daughter Rory decided to take a surprise solo cruise down the driveway.

According to Newsweek, Megan had taken baby Rory out for a walk on what she described as a scorching summer day. After working up a sweat, her little one wanted water, but her cup was empty. Like any attentive mom, the Michigan native dashed inside for a quick refill. What she didn’t realize was that the stroller brake hadn’t been fully engaged. While she thought she’d locked it, apparently it wasn’t locked down firmly enough. Just seconds later, the stroller began to roll and not in the direction any parent wants.

The family’s security footage shows Rory slowly drifting down the driveway, her stroller quietly picking up speed toward the street. Within moments, Megan bursts through the door, clocking the movement just in time. She sprints outside and snatches the stroller before it can make it to the road. Thankfully, Rory was completely fine and, according to Megan, completely unbothered by the unexpected ride.

“I thought I clicked the brake,” Megan told the outlet but she now realizes it just wasn’t pushed all the way down. It was a small mistake, but one that served as a huge reminder. Megan says it really showed her “how quickly things can change.”

And isn’t that the most relatable parenting truth of all?

Before the internet could launch into full-blown mom-shaming mode, it’s important to note: this is real life. Megan isn’t alone. Studies have shown that first-time parents can experience up to six years of sleep deprivation. Combine that with summer heat, daily stress, and the nonstop demands of raising a baby, and it’s no surprise that a simple misstep like a not-quite-locked stroller brake can happen.

Instead of hiding the incident, Megan decided to own it. After sharing the footage with friends and having a good laugh, she decided to post the video on TikTok, where other parents chimed in with support, solidarity, and even some similar stories of their own.

Thankfully, Everything Worked Out

Megan’s ability to laugh about it now shows just how important perspective is. Sure, the situation could’ve gone very wrong—but it didn’t. And instead of spiraling into guilt, she’s using it as a teachable moment for other parents to always double-check those brakes.

In the end, baby Rory got a breeze-filled driveway ride, mom got a viral moment, and the rest of us got a friendly reminder: parenting is wild, mistakes happen, and sometimes you just have to laugh (after the panic wears off, of course).

So, if you’re a new parent or even a seasoned pro, let this be your sign to give that stroller brake one extra stomp next time, just in case. Thankfully, everything worked out fine for this Michigan family.
