Kelly Clarkson Relives Montana Nightmare After Ex-Husband’s Death: ‘The Stage For Betrayal’

When the world shut down due to Covid, Kelly Clarkson did what many families did, hunkered down somewhere quiet, away from the chaos. For her, that meant retreating to Montana with then-husband Brandon Blackstock, their kids River Rose and Remy, and her trusted personal assistant, Brittney Marie Jones. What should have been a rustic, bonding experience in quarantine ended up becoming a story of betrayal so wild it feels like something out of a soap opera.

At the time, Kelly Clarkson was doing her best to juggle motherhood, marriage, and her booming career, while also navigating the uncertainty of a global pandemic. What she didn’t realize, however, was that the cabin she had secured for her family’s safety would become the backdrop of a betrayal she’d only fully grasp years later. According to insiders, Clarkson was unknowingly sharing her sanctuary with her future “replacement,” per NE.

Fast forward, and the world learned through Brandon’s obituary following his death at age 48 after a battle with skin cancer that Brittney was not only part of their inner circle, but ultimately the woman he called his “loving partner.” Imagine the gut punch of seeing your former assistant listed in such a way, while your own name wasn’t even mentioned. Talk about salt in the wound.

Sources insist that Brandon and Brittney didn’t officially become an item until after Clarkson filed for divorce in June 2020. Still, whispers from those close to the situation suggest the spark was ignited much earlier while the trio was holed up together in Montana. The lockdown, meant to bring families closer, instead gave Brandon and Brittney a chance to forge a connection “behind Kelly’s back.” As one insider bluntly put it, “What Kelly didn’t realize was she was literally housing her replacement.”

And the signs, according to those same sources, were there all along: the “glances,” the “private chats,” the subtle chemistry that everyone else seemed to miss. Clarkson, known for being down-to-earth and trusting, never suspected a thing. While she was busy trying to hold everything together, her husband and assistant were allegedly building a bond that would outlast her marriage.

By 2022, the divorce between Kelly and Brandon wrapped up, but not without some brutal financial blows. The singer ended up handing over a $1.3 million settlement, a staggering $2.4 million in spousal support, and more than $45,000 every month in child support. To add insult to injury, Brandon used that money to cozy up in a $1.7 million Butte, Montana home with Brittney. Yes, the same Brittney who had once been on Kelly’s payroll.

A Tragic End For Brandon Blackstock

Kelly eventually fought back legally, suing Brandon for millions over commissions he allegedly pocketed without being a licensed manager. They reached a confidential settlement, but the damage, both financial and emotional, was already done.

Now, with the full truth coming out in the wake of Brandon’s passing, friends of the singer say the betrayal feels fresh all over again. “Her home, the one place she thought was safe, was really the stage for betrayal,” one close friend revealed. It’s heartbreaking to think that the place she chose to shield her family during a terrifying moment in history was where the cracks in her marriage deepened and where her assistant allegedly slid into a role no one saw coming.

For Kelly Clarkson, Montana will likely forever hold bittersweet memories. What began as a haven during lockdown has now become the setting of one of the biggest heartbreaks of her life.
