Hungry and Humiliated Massachusetts Woman Stands in the Cold After Being Locked Out Of McDonald’s: ‘I Pray You Made It Through This Tragedy’

Fast food mishaps usually involve missing fries or a lukewarm burger, but in Massachusetts, one woman’s routine McDonald’s stop turned into something much stranger. Instead of walking up to the counter to grab her order, she found herself locked out of the restaurant entirely with her food visible inside and no clear explanation in sight. Naturally, TikTok was about to hear all about it.

The viral video, posted by @benice_workhard, quickly caught attention across Massachusetts and beyond, racking up thousands of views and likes as viewers tried to make sense of the situation. The clip opens with the visibly frustrated woman standing outside a McDonald’s, tugging on doors that refuse to budge. Inside, the dining room appears busy, with customers seated and employees moving behind the counter, making the locked doors even more confusing.

According to the woman, the timing made no sense. It wasn’t late at night or near closing time, she says it was only around “7:12 at night,” which is prime dinner-hour territory for fast food. From outside the glass, she claims she could actually see her order sitting on the counter, just out of reach. As irritation sets in, she turns the camera on herself and asks the question everyone watching is thinking: “Why am I locked out?”

Massachusetts Woman Locked Out Of McDonald’s After Online Order

@McDonald’s Corporate @McDonald’s of New England Tell me why I show up to pick up my one Diet Coke—an order I already paid for—because I didn’t want to sit in a drive-through line wrapped around the entire building… and the doors are literally locked. No sign. No notice. Just locked. So customers who come inside to quickly grab their mobile orders are basically out of luck? That’s the solution when things get busy—just shut the doors? And to make it worse, the woman who claimed to be the manager at the Rochester location was unbelievably rude when I politely let her know the doors were locked. I honestly thought maybe it was an accident. Apparently not. @McDonalds, is this really acceptable? Because this is how your customers are being treated. The video then jumps ahead, revealing that the situation was eventually resolved, but not without extra effort. The woman is now seated in her car, her McDonald’s order finally in hand. “Guys, this is absolutely ridiculous that I have to make this video,” she says, before explaining what allegedly happened next. The entire ordeal, she claims, was over a single Diet Coke.

According to her account, another customer noticed her struggling at the door and took pity, opening it from the inside so she could enter. Once inside, she says she spoke with employees behind the counter about the locked doors. That’s when things got even stranger. The woman claims an employee admitted they were the one who locked the doors, not because the restaurant was closed, but because the dinner rush had become overwhelming.

If true, it paints a picture many service workers can probably relate to: understaffed, slammed, and trying to control the chaos. Still, locking customers out while orders sit ready inside isn’t exactly standard McDonald’s protocol. Feeling fed up, the woman says she contacted McDonald’s corporate line to report what happened.

The Internet Isn’t That Concerned

Online, reactions were mixed. Some viewers sympathized with the woman’s frustration, especially since she says she had already paid and could see her drink waiting. Others sided with the workers, pointing out how stressful fast food jobs can be during peak hours. Either way, the clip struck a nerve, becoming another example of how everyday annoyances can snowball into viral moments.

“I pray you made it through this tragedy,” one viewer sarcastically wrote. “Girl it’s not that serious,” another said. “It’s common practice when understaffed to close the lobby. There is no perfect moment to do it. You just have to do it,” a third person added. “Just go thru the drive thru and pick it up,” a fourth comment read.

In the end, the Massachusetts woman did get her Diet Coke, but not without confusion, complaints, and a TikTok recap. While most fast food runs are forgettable, this one proves that sometimes the smallest orders come with the biggest drama.
