A tense scene outside an Oregon clothing store has sparked plenty of debate online after a viral video showed multiple employees chasing a homeless man across a parking lot over what was described as a $10 pair of used shoes.
The footage, shared on TikTok by creator Wolfpack, captures the aftermath of what they say began when the man allegedly walked away from the store wearing or carrying the inexpensive shoes. Instead of simply reporting the incident, several employees, including someone identified as the store manager, were seen running after him.
But according to the Oregon social media user, the most surprising part wasn’t the alleged theft itself. It was how far the pursuit appeared to go. As the chase unfolded, Wolfpack began recording and positioned themselves between the employees and the fleeing man. The workers reportedly noticed they were being filmed, laughed, gestured toward the camera, and even appeared to record Wolfpack with a phone of their own.
Oregon Homeless Man Needed Shoes But What Happened Next Was Heartbreaking
In the TikTok caption, Wolfpack didn’t hold back, claiming they had “stopped” the employees from “attacking an elderly homeless man running for his life.” They also questioned whether such an aggressive response was justified over what they described as a used $10 item. “For a $10 pair of used shoes you attack the most vulnerable?” they wrote.
After posting the Oregon video, Wolfpack said they contacted the larger company by email to express concerns about the incident. According to screenshots they later shared, the response explained that individual stores are independently owned and operated and that corporate leadership does not make decisions for local owners. The company also reportedly encouraged them to communicate directly with the specific location involved.
When Wolfpack reached out to the store itself, they say they were told the homeless man eventually dropped the shoes and employees stopped pursuing him. According to their account, one employee allegedly continued following the man even after the shoes had been abandoned and only stopped because Wolfpack intervened.
The creator argued that without someone stepping in, the confrontation could have escalated into something much worse. They ended their public comments with a simple plea for businesses and employees to “do better.”
This Is So Sad
As often happens with viral moments online, viewers have been left debating where the line should be drawn between protecting store property and avoiding potentially dangerous confrontations over relatively inexpensive merchandise.
The short clips don’t reveal everything that happened before or after the chase, leaving plenty of unanswered questions. Still, the videos have generated significant discussion about employee safety, homelessness, and whether pursuing someone over a low-cost item is ever worth the potential consequences.
“Despicable,” one person commented online. “It’s summer, it’s hot, it’s hard to find shade, and it’s hard enough being homeless. What happened to human kindness and compassion?” said another. “I wish the man could be found and helped, that’s devastating to me,” a third person chimed in.
Whatever people’s opinions may be, the Oregon incident has clearly struck a nerve—and it’s another reminder of how quickly an ordinary day in a parking lot can become the internet’s latest talking point.
