It looks like not everything was picture-perfect after Donald Trump and his wife Melania’s latest trip to New York. The former president and first lady were caught on camera having what looked like a heated discussion while riding Marine One back to the White House, and the body language spoke volumes.
The footage, filmed Wednesday night after the couple returned from the United Nations General Assembly, shows Donald Trump waving his finger at Melania as she sat across from him. In return, the former first lady shook her head in visible disagreement, according to The Daily Mail.
The clip ends with the two disembarking from Marine One, walking hand-in-hand across the South Lawn, but by then, the awkwardness had already made its way across the internet. And of course, it all started in New York, where the couple had been dealing with what Trump himself described as “triple sabotage.”
Donald Trump Seen In Heated Conversation With Melanie After New York Visit
Earlier that day, Trump went on Truth Social to claim he and Melania were nearly injured after an escalator incident at the UN headquarters in New York. “A REAL DISGRACE took place at the United Nations yesterday,” he wrote.
“Not one, not two, but three very sinister events!” He alleged the escalator could have caused a dangerous fall if they hadn’t been holding the railings tightly. He even called the situation “absolutely sabotage,” demanding those responsible be arrested.
Melania, never one to mince words, apparently confirmed at least one part of Trump’s frustration with the audio issues during his speech. According to Trump, she told him bluntly afterward, “I couldn’t hear a word you said.”
A UN official later clarified to the Daily Mail that the sound system was designed for interpreters and hadn’t changed in decades, but that explanation didn’t stop Trump from fuming about what he saw as technical failures stacked against him.
The Internet Speaks Out
The tension between the couple didn’t go unnoticed, especially since Trump himself recently weighed in on another political marriage. Earlier this year, after footage of French President Emmanuel Macron being shoved in the face by his wife Brigitte went viral, Trump joked in the Oval Office, “Make sure the door remains closed.” Now, social media can’t help but point out the irony of Trump’s own awkward marital moment being captured on video.
“At least she didn’t hit him like the French one,” one person wrote. “This must really be a slow news day because this is a story about nothing,” another stated. “He is naturally combative and ready to fight,” a third person commented.
For longtime Trump-watchers, the scene in New York and its aftermath only adds to the ongoing fascination with the couple’s dynamic. Despite walking off Marine One hand-in-hand, viewers are still dissecting Melania’s head shake and Trump’s finger wave. Was it just a disagreement over the “sabotage” at the UN? Or something deeper?
