Cleveland Browns NFL rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders is off to a fast start, literally. The 23-year-old was cited not once, but twice in June for speeding in Ohio, and we’re not talking a few harmless miles over the limit. Sanders was allegedly flying down highways like he was scrambling out of the pocket. Only this time, there weren’t any defenders chasing him.

According to ESPN, the most recent incident happened just after midnight on June 18, when Shedeur Sanders was pulled over by Strongsville police for driving a blistering 101 mph in a 60 mph zone. That’s 41 mph over the limit, and it could land him in court. According to the citation, Sanders has two options: cough up a $250 fine for the fourth-degree misdemeanor or show up to Strongsville Mayor’s Court on July 3 to contest the ticket. But hold on, this wasn’t his first brush with the speedometer this month.

Just days earlier, on June 5, Sanders was stopped by the Ohio State Patrol in Brunswick Hills for allegedly going 91 mph in a 65 mph zone. The Medina Municipal Court record for that citation was filed on June 6, and let’s just say Sanders hasn’t exactly been rushing to take care of it. According to court records, he failed to appear for his arraignment on Monday. That means he now faces $269 in fines and court costs. Yeah… not the best look for a rookie trying to make his mark.

Not a Good Look for NFL Rookie Shedeur Sanders

The Browns, who just wrapped up mandatory minicamp last week, say they’ve already addressed the situation with Sanders. Team spokesman Peter John-Baptiste says, “He is taking care of the tickets.” Hopefully, that’s not code for “We hope this all quietly goes away.”

Shedeur Sanders’ been in Cleveland for rookie orientation alongside other young players and participated in minicamp activities as expected. But while he may have shown flashes of potential on the field. He’s got some serious ground to cover. Especially considering how many quarterbacks are ahead of him on the depth chart.

Let’s be real here: when you’re a fifth-round pick sitting fourth on the depth chart behind veterans Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett and fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel, the last thing you want is to become a distraction. Especially when you’re the son of Coach Prime himself, Deion Sanders. As well as having first-round buzz swirling around you before the NFL Draft. Speeding tickets don’t scream “NFL-ready.” They scream, “rookie mistakes.” And if the Browns are hoping for a drama-free training camp, this isn’t helping.

How Will Cleveland Handle the Shedeur Sanders Situation

Sure, it’s easy to chalk this up to a young guy with a flashy truck and a heavy foot. The Dodge TRX he was reportedly driving isn’t exactly known for its chill factor. But at the end of the day, safety matters, and this isn’t just about optics. Going over 100 mph in a public area is dangerous, full stop.

For now, Shedeur Sanders will have to decide if he wants to fight the latest charge in court or just pay up and move on. Either way, the pressure’s officially on—and not just on the field. With the competition in Cleveland’s quarterback room already stacked, he can’t afford many more missteps, literal or figurative. Maybe it’s time for Shedeur to hit the brakes, before the Browns hit pause on his NFL future.
